So my LiveScan has finally cleared. Now I still need to get a copy of my DD214. I have reached out the the National Veterans Archieves the same day I did my LiveScan, but have heard nothing. My request just shows as pending. I also reached out to a private service that costs money to get your documents "faster". Nothing from them either.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to obtain a copy of your military records quickly? The original 214 I got upon separation is in MA in a vacant house, so not an option to get it there... Where else can I go?

Dang. I live in La city so I’m under LAPD jurisdiction looks like I missed the august 1 postmark deadline so now I’m going to have to go through LAPD right?

Dragged my feet since I had no good cause. Seems like I should have applied with light green 6 months ago and when they finally got to me I would have been good to go. Hindsight is 20/20

that's a bummer. i was in your shoes - living in LA proper, feeling hopeless, and dragging my feet for about a year. i started to realize i had a reasonable good cause argument and said why not. have my interview this week. who knows where it goes, though

CCW Application Payment

I applied last week for my CCW application using a personal check. I was advised it wouldn't be a problem. And this was before I found this forum.

Any advice on how I should proceed? Should I re apply with a money order? Let it play out in hopes they cash it? Will the Sherriff's Department contact me regarding the error?

My father and I both paid with personal checks when we mailed our apps in last June and had no issue

Phone call from LASD, can be private # or not. After call an email will be sent to you.

Not sure when you separated, and I am not sure when MilConnect\DEERS went online, but you can always try via MilConnect.

Just a thought: Isn't it time to create different threads. They should be divided by Law Enforcement agencies having oversight based upon where you live. An example, one for each of the following agencies: LAPD, San Fernando, Long Beach, Seal Beach, Pomona etc. Each agency is going have issues and growing pains and the thread should be specific to those issues/agency to assist applicants. Keeping a single thread will create more confusion than it will clarification, as each agency may have different processing units.

Just because in the past it made sense to have county-by-county doesn't mean that shouldn't change. This is for all practical purposes an LASD thread, since they are by far the largest IA in the county. Until just now, the only reason to even mention LAPD was to say one no longer needs to waste time applying through them.

40% of LA County's people live in LA City. From here on, those people won't care about what's happening at LASD, and the 6 million people outside of LA City won't care about what happens at LAPD except to pity us.

I'd suggest an LA City forum, makes sense to me to separate the threads.
