I never got an acknowledgment that LASD received my training documents, but weeks later got the call for pick-up. Sometimes you just end up waiting.
        4/19/21 applied, 8/31 Whittier interview.
11/17 PTT email, docs sent 11/18
12/13 call for pick up, picked up 12/15/21.
Utah CCW since March 2018 and Arizona since June 2022
        Mailed renewal 5/8/23, online 11/6, interview 11/15
11/26 PTT and docs submitted, 11/29 approved
        Pickup 12/20

LAPD is going to have their hands full. They may have only one employee currently handling CCW since their policy of not issuing made it easy for them, and it got even easier when LASD no longer required an LAPD denial letter first.

NOPE, far from everyone. Only those in unincorporated areas, and contract cities.

It will likely double the already ridiculously long wait for everyone else.

Time to sue LASD and DOJ. for egregiously delaying citizens RBA. And the exorbitant fees charged.

IN DIRECT CONFLICT WITH 2A and ignoring the strongly worded threat of what would happen if such persisted.

And one of the specific abuses mentioned by Justice Thomas was regarding "lengthy wait times, another was 'exorbitant fees". https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinion...0-843_7j80.pdf

Which would lead one to believe that Thomas was speaking directly to Ca IAs that abuse BOTH. In order to keep CITIZENS FROM RBA.

IAs directly bucking a SCOTUS ruling on a constitutional case. Removes their Qualified Immunity. And places their own personal WALLET in jeopardy of being emptied in a "1983 CIVIL RIGHTS SUIT.

After three months, firearms cleared 7/27/22.

In current timeframe, any idea when i'll be hearing from sheriff dept in regard to 'proceed with training'? Thinking of starting the training concurrently. Any feedback would be appreciated.

seems to be right on the normal timeline, take a look at mine to get an idea. I would go get the training and save a day or two.

I picked up last week, it was 22 days from confirmation of receipt to the call for pickup.

What was your time frame of when your livescan cleared to getting the proceed to training email?

I'm just over here reading all the goodness at 3 weeks since turned in application. Can anyone tell me how the first communication happens. Was it a phone call, letter, email?

I did a bit of googling and came to the conclusion that a "contract city" is a city that has contracted LASD to their police work in lieu of having their own police department; "contract city" does not refer to a police department that has entered an agreement with LASD to process CCW applications and renewals. Is that correct?

If so, is there any reason I shouldn't apply to my local PD if I already applied to LASD a little over a month ago? There's no way for local police to know that I already applied to LASD before the cutoff date, right? I feel kinda bad about wasting LASD and local PD resources by applying twice, but given the current backlog w/ LASD, I'm seriously considering going with this option...

I'm also concerned that my local (and very small) PD doesn't have the resources to handle CCW applications since they ceded that power to LASD, but that's a different concern. My main worry is whether I'm boning myself by applying twice.

You state that you applied "a little over a month ago". That puts your application well prior to the designated LASD cutoff date of 8-1-2022. See quote from LASD CCW UNIT.

                              EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2022
The LASD will only accept first-time CCW applications from those who reside within our contract cities or unincorporated communities and encourage applicants residing in a municipality other than those served by the LASD to contact their local police chief and apply for a CCW license.

All first-time CCW applications submitted, received, or postmarked before the indicated date; the LASD will accept and continue to process.
According to the wording of that notification. LASD will after that date. ONLY accept applications from "UNINCORPORATED AREAS OF LA CNTY. AND CONTRACT CITIES.

That means any city NOT CONTRACTED, would include those with previous MOUs to handle CCW issuance.

What is an MOU in government?

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) is a written agreement between parties that expresses their aligned will. This type of document also details the intent of a common line of action. A memorandum of understanding can be bilateral (between two parties) or multilateral (between more than two parties).
Possibly the failure to mention the MOU cities was an oversight? But considering recent budget constraints. And the fact that cops don't write that stuff. Lawyers Do. Those MOU city's citizens, are now SOL.

Just found out about this deadline yesterday. Anyone know if it would work to walk it in to my local sheriff's station today? Would there by anyone there to receive it and would they timestamp it?

Alternative is shipping it via UPS/FedEx since every USPS is closed today.
