I've lived in long beach my entire adult life and the majority of my childhood. I don't know one person that was able to obtain a ccw that was issued in long beach.
Re elect Sherriff Alex Villanueva. He is your best shot.

Sadly I have not see anyone post about a "proceed to training" email in awhile. I have seen a few "Call to pickup" posts though. Hopefully we can get a some posts that show a clear timeline again soon.

Looks like Luna’s response to you was verbatim his response to another poster on the preceding page, CaptAl.

That means it is campaign boilerplate. An agreed upon statement to be copied and pasted to any one asking questions.

Given what others said about his record in Long Beach, I will continue to support Sheriff Villanueva.

I guess I'm just trying to be optimistic. Lol. I'm for sure voting for Villanueva, but this gives me a slight bit if hope.

Does anyone know when LBPD transitioned to LASD issuing? I emailed their campaign email and they threw the blame on LASD.

                  Just curious, what blame?

                    The question -

Previously you've stated that you'd renew current CCWs as LA sheriff, as long as training and background checks were done. How many CCWs did you issue with these requirements as Long Beach chief?

                    Answer

LASD issues CCWs for Long Beach residents, not LBPD. LBPD is only able to issue CCWs for reserve officers and retired officers. If you would like to get that specific information, you will need to contact the LBPD.

                    Thanks,
                    Teresa

It's possible I'm wrong but here is my understanding of the situation. By state law, permits may be issued by either Sheriffs or local P.D. Most local departments CHOOSE not to issue and delegate that power to the county Sheriff. I'm quibbling with their use of the words "able to". I believe they are able to issue to regular citizens if they want to (just like LAPD was able to issue but simply rejected every applicant) and there is nothing in State law that prevents them from doing so. It's simply a policy choice. I'm not sure if that policy choice is made by the P.D. or by the City Council, but I believe it is up to the P.D, so I would not let LBPD off the hook for that choice quite so easily. They can't legitimately make the policy choice and then turn around and say it is out of their hands.

                              Answer

LASD issues CCWs for Long Beach residents, not LBPD. LBPD is only able to issue CCWs for reserve officers and retired officers. If you would like to get that specific information, you will need to contact the LBPD.

Robert Luna became the Long Beach Chief of Police on November 22, 2014.
LBPD began deferring CCW applications to LASD on May 1, 2018.

That means Luna was COP for 3.5 years at Long Beach when they were responsible processing CCW applications. We all know the McDonnell was the previous Chief of Police from 2010 to 2014 before he became the LASD Sheriff. He did not issue CCW to regular citizens when he was the head of both organizations. Unknown if Luna did the same during those 3.5 years. There's no data on LBPD CCW anywhere online.

There's a Calgunner who posted "I've lived in long beach my entire adult life and the majority of my childhood. I don't know one person that was able to obtain a ccw that was issued in long beach."
