As another has stated do you mind sharing the process you went through to submit your application and what kind of good cause you used?

      Thanks!

Where did you find this update? Was it uploaded as part of a policy change somewhere?

This, in addition to the 3,500 inmates already released in March:

The announcement by top advisors to Gov. Gavin Newsom offered stark evidence of the dire health conditions at several California prisons.

and the plans to shut down the LA Central Jail in downtown LA:

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a motion to create a plan to close the Men's Central Jail near downtown L.A. within a year.

Now that defunding the police appears to be underway and Villanueva is losing favor with the Board of Supervisors, I wonder if he will reconsider his current policy on good cause statement. My guess is it is highly unlikely he will revise the policy, but we may never know since we now have unprecedented circumstances that are different from months ago.

There's a new online streaming Q&A by AV posted on the LASD FB/Instagram page yesterday (July 9th) at 2:45 pm. If someone can track down a version to link directly here, that would be great.

~19 min to 22 min he talks about CCWs. He says there's "a lot of interest in CCWs." Again, he talks about adding more staff to process CCWs, expects a 400% increase in CCWs, and says he supports a GC standard vs Shall Issue. Doesn't give details re. what is acceptable GC. Says the CCW Unit is in the Undersheriff's office. Says they're going to be issuing CCWs to "SOs and CAs." (COs?) I'm guessing these will be the 4-year Reserves CCWs, not the 2-year Standard/Civilian/Residence ones you guys would get. He says re. GC for others who don't work for LASD "just give me a reason why you want to be armed." (I'm guessing he was tired, but he goes on to say w/a CCW when you travel in your car it has to be secured in a lockbox in the trunk with ammo separate. )

He says their CCW Info website "is currently being updated", but doesn't say when update will be online.

It's a 33 min video, but a commentator mentioned CCWs at 19 min so that's where I went. Someone should watch the whole thing to make sure I haven't missed anything.

You people in LA Co should monitor LASD's FB and Instagram accounts for these sorts of things, ideally letting CGNers know about them before they take place. (I'm in the SFBA.)

The sheriff has these videos regularly. what I do is on Facebook I have it set up where it notifies me when they go live. I watch this as it was happening and based upon the information I have received from a couple sources that I cannot disclose, he has relaxed the good cause but won't elaborate as to what it is but then again it is not shall issue. I would still encourage everybody to apply because all it is is $10 for a decision. $10 is cheaper than a 12 pack of beer. LOL. for a chance to get a concealed carry permit, $10 is worth it. You will never know if you were able to get a concealed carry permit under Alex Villanueva or not if you don't spend the $10.

QFT! It sounds like his campaign promise: not Dark Green/SI, but better than Dark Red/McDonnell. That left us with Light Red, Yellow and Light Green. We went the most conservative by going with Light Red, but flipped it back when he hadn't changed anything (AFA we could tell). Maybe now he's finally getting around to keeping that campaign promise.

Many CGNers suffer from "battered gun owner" syndrome. Quite understandable in a Red county in the PRK. Hopefully several CGNers will be getting issued CCWs and post about it. That will encourage those with weaker GCs to give it a try and we'll eventually get a good idea of what passes or not for GC.

Hopefully, with time, AV or whoever's after him, will continue down the path of more liberal issuance as they get comfortable with the idea. BGs will carry regardless. Restricting GC only hurts GGs.

LA County is populous. If it was a state, with 10M people it would be the 10th most populous state, behind GA and in front of NC and MI. Any loosening of LASD's GC standard will produce a significant increase in the total number of CCWs in this state.

I agree. From what I'm hearing, he is issuing more than before. I don't know why it took so long but we shall see. He is issuing to his SO's and CA's ( security officers and custody assistants) so I hear. I don't know if this is temp thing due to reelection. Who knows. Maybe it has to do with all of these prisoners being released early and all the crap going on in the world right now.

If anyone has details and/or has been issued by La county recently, please share. You would obviously remain anonymous since your name isn't posted but you would be helping many stuck on the fence.

Another delay/denying tactic by LA County Sheriff. Good luck folks.

The election is 2 years away. This is too far out to be an attempt just to get votes vs. a real change.

I think it is a combination of pressures coming together. (1) AV made his campaign promise to issue more CCWs.

                                (2) Last March to May, COVID panic, with runs on gun shops. I'm sure lots of people asked the LASD about CCWs too.

                                (3) In May to currently the protests, riots and looting took place, making even more people look into guns and CCWs.

                                (4) Gov Newsom released several thousands of prisoners (~3,000 IIRC) and now is set to release thousands more (~5,000 IIRC). That makes even more residents want to get a CCW.

                                (5) AV in his FB video from Thurs was asked if he was issuing CCWs to "SOs and CAs" and he said "Yes, we do. We already set that in motion. We're working with the union people on that." That's more pressure: SOs and CAs are afraid they'll be recognized off work, be unarmed and be attacked.

                                (6) Last is something no one has brought up yet: It's been 2 years since the CA State Auditor found, basically, that Sheriff McDonnell blew off his official CCW policy and did whatever he wanted. Out of 25 reviewed CCW files, not one followed his residency requirements and 24 out of 25 violated his GC policy. (The audit was originally motivated, we believed, to hit Sheriff Jones (Sacto) for his liberal GC but instead it slightly hit Gore (SD) (who was beginning the process of liberalization anyway), but really nailed McDonnell (LA).) The CSA told LA to obey CA state law and either follow their published policy and pull those CCWs issued in violation thereof, or to change their policy to issue liberally to all to cover all the currently issued CCWs. A year ago the CSA followed up and saw that neither McDonnell or AV had fixed those problems and warned LASD again. This summer is the 2nd anniversary of the audit. (IIRC, some CGNer posted that if they continue to blow CSA off, CSA informs the legislature and a committee orders the sheriff to show up at committee hearings and explain why he's breaking state law and why he should not be punished. IOW, while the CSA does not have "teeth" who they report to does.) AV does not need that in addition to all his current problems not related to CCWs.

AV does not need any more "drama" with all the anti LEO stuff going on. My GUESS is that a "perfect storm" has come together to create this opening. Let's see if it is real, and if so, how far the "door" is opening. Wish you LA Co folk the best!
