    Follow their process.
What did you mean by authorization to do live scan? I just had interview yesterday and they handed me a sheet for live scan at the end. Do I still need to wait for an email authorization?

No, go get your live scan ASAP.

I think some people are getting live scanned and taking the class prior to even getting an interview date.

No. Get your Livescan ASAP. There appears to be a backlog, so sooner the better. And don't bring any gun information. Your Livescan check is separate from the guns you'll list on your permit. LASD will check those on their own.

Everyone, please use your time and money wisely. You need to do Livescans specifically requested by an employer, licensee or provider. The Livescan form they give you will have information (e.g. who will receive the Livescan results) ONLY on the form they give you to perform the Livescan. If you do it before they give you clearance, you're going to wind up having to do it again.

As for the training, that's your prerogative. More training never hurts. However, if you're denied, you're not getting that money back, though you could potentially save some time.

How deep into detail are we expected to go with our supporting documentation?

For example, if claiming you transport expensive firearms to a remote range on a regular basis, is providing a list of those firearms and pictures of them sufficient? Or, should you provide receipts for the guns and all of their parts to prove value? Or is that just overkill?

Or, if you hike in remote areas, do you need to literally provide a map showing where the nearest police station is and cell phone coverage? Or is a trail map itself sufficient?

I just don't want to provide too much information and spend too much time doing far too detailed documentation and annoy them or delay sending in the application.

I showed a quicken printout of the line items of camping and off-roading stuff I bought and the sales agreement for my truck. For recreation, I showed pictures from the trail with the date and approximate location. Some pictures I used were family photos, campsite photos, views, wildlife I saw on the trail etc. It was a collage of 15 pictures that took 2 additional pages. I think you need to provide something that proves you were there. A trail map anyone can download and put it in the application. All my photos had gps coordinates and other exif data embedded in it so it can be verified if they wanted proof.

And finally, after all that work, when I asked what was the deciding factor he said it was my work related reason so I am not sure if I put all that in there for nothing.

LASD Sheriff's Chief Eli Vera Will Run Against Villanueva in 2022

CCW policies can change with a new sheriff, and I'm sure none of us could've predicted what AV has done so far! No county that has relaxed it's CCW policy has gone more restrictive (yet). As it gets closer to next election, it'll be interesting to see where this candidate stands:

Just reading his statement, sounds like a kumbaya peacenik. The only people this guy is likely to make peace with are the Board Of Supervisors. You can kiss our county's safety goodbye if they this guy gets elected.
