I would get the firearm you want to carry first. At some point, your serial numbers will be checked against DROS records and we can't be sure when this will happen and you want to make sure the firearm is DROS-ed to you before they check.

I would proceed in the following order:

      1. Purchase and begin DROS on what you want to carry. You will have the S/N at that time.

      2. While you are in the waiting period, complete your application including all S/N's

      3. When you have confidence you have a pick-up date you know you can make, mail the application to the CCW office a day before that, so you have confidence you will have competed DROS before they can open it and check.

I am a believer in filling all three slots if possible. Perhaps you want your EDC gun, something small you can just slip in your pocket in case you have to go outside and take out the trash or something, and something with more capacity for those times and situations you think there might be more than the average risk. In any case, every gun on your permit lowers your legal risk in situations where you may be transporting improperly such as when you think the lock locked securely, but it did not fully engage, or an officer wants to take issue with having a loaded mag in the same case as the gun. It's legal, but this saves the possibility of the argument.

I also note that the qualification instructions refer to the "first firearm" and "subsequent firearm qualification courses". It is not clear to me if this is for multiple guns in the same session, or renewal sessions after your first. In any case I think it makes sense to list the one you shoot the best in that first slot.
I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.

Someone in my qual class qualified with her full frame Glock because that is all she had. During the class, she found a G26 and bought it.

The instructor and store let her qual the new gun, they put it back for the 10 day waiting period, and she was able to add the new gun because the CCW was not issued yet.

Thank you all, this is how i was leaning but was also anxious about getting the application in ASAP incase they put a hold on issuing ccw for whatever reason.

While that is a tiny risk, I thing most people would take that in exchange for carrying their preferred firearm.

When you go in for live scan, do they need info all firearms listed on your application. I thought they told me live scan is just for me and they will check firearms after the ccw training is done and they will get firearm information from training certification. I asked cuz I wanted to add another firearm to my application and they told me I just have to have the firearm under my name prior to ccw training.

I think Major Caliber has a lot of misinformation on there.

It's what you qualify with through your CCW training. Your instructor signs off on it.

Well, I'm always willing to stand corrected, but I don't think it's as simple as "what you qualify with". To be clear, I don't think you can get a gun on your permit unless you have BOTH qualified with it AND it shows as registered to you in the state system. This actually happened to me. I qualified with a gun, the instructor wrote the serial number correctly off the frame and signed off, BUT I could not get it on my permit because there was a typo in the state system and the gun I actually own was not shown as registered to me. A different serial number, off by one character, was shown as registered to me. This gun was purchased back when dealers filled out DROS records by hand and somebody at the state read them and typed in the data. The error was between two characters that could easily be mistaken for each other with less than perfect writing. The Sheriff's office would not put the one I qualified with on my permit, despite the instructor sign off, until I processed a form with the state CFARS system to correct their records.

I'm not sure what you are asking. I could not get the one with the mistaken S/N on my permit because I can't qualify with it since I don't have it, and I could not get the one I do have on my permit because the state did not think I owned it. Once I processed the S/N correction in the CFARS system, then I was able to get the one I own and qualified with on my permit.
