I asked this question my investigator-she told me only during renewal any changes to firearms. This for LAPD

For me I really wanted to change one but I will have to wait.
When I called and asked, LASD CCW Unit told me that if I wanted to add or change out a firearm on my license, that any gun that I qualified with that was listed on my Shooting Proficiency Standards Form would be the gun(s) listed on my CCW, and that I could notify the investigator at my interview of my desire to change or add; after that, I was locked in until renewal.

Maybe that was my problem. I wanted to change after the interview

I called the CCW department yesterday to check my status. My application has been assigned to an investigator, but they are out on leave and it's going to be a few more weeks before my interview.

I experienced this with adding a firearm with LASD. My original application had 2 listed. Months later between my in-person interview and my CCW class I acquired my 3rd firearm. I e-mailed my investigator the info and qualified with it during my class and it was listed on my CCW when I picked it up.

That explains a lot. I thought we would have heard from someone within 3 weeks of submitting the required documents. I wish they would have assigned us to a different investigator if he/she was going to be on a leave of absence. Oh well. We've made it this far.

Hey team - after a grand total of 618 days, I'll be picking up my permit.

I received the call for pickup after about 50 days from submitting training docs.

Thanks to all of you for providing guidance!

Also a shout out to MedicUp Consulting for the training - definitely see Ron and his team. They do a lot more than just CCW courses, first-aid, conflict resolution, etc...

                See y'all around!

As far as changing which guns goes on the permit, with LASD, as long as before the training, they have time to run the check on the gun to make sure all the records line up, you can make changes, though you're still limited to 3. For a very short period they were allowing changes after permit issuance, but stopped it pretty quickly as I don't think they have the manpower to deal with anything beyond just issuing the permits and getting through the current massive backlog.

Congratulations....the hardest part is getting the initial permit, the renewal is easy. After you receive your permit, Apply for your Arizona and Utah non-resident ccw permits if/when you travel out of state if you haven't done so already. Example, California does not cover nevada (Las Vegas), but Arizona and Utah does.

Strangest thing happened today. Out of the blue, LASD called and left a message for me to call back. First thought in my mind was a clever scam but then upon googling the inbound number revealed it was indeed from LASD.

Proceeded to call back and spoke to a sweet sounding female deputy. She asked if I was still interested in applying for CCW.

Long story short, there's no need to visit the station, everything will be done via email. I will need to resubmit proof of residency, DL, passport, new live scan since my original one expired, etc., and that's pretty much it.

She'll then forward the completed docs to an investigator and the whole process will take 3~4 months (according to her). Once approved, I'll be notified via email to go pick up my permit.

The whole phone conversation took about 15 min and was essentially the same as the in-person interview I did back in 2021.

Off I go to get my live scan...
