Firearms training was already part of my subject line so I just sent it as-is and got a confirmation soon after.

Thanks for the recommendation. Already took the class with my buddy who got his PTT before me at Firing Line. I wanted to knock out everything in one day instead of splitting it into two. Will probably take his class for my renewal though because I was not a big fan of the class at Firing Line.

I know this has been asked before but there are too many pages to scroll through. The PTT email says the subject line must say "FIREARMS TRAINING." When you email the cert, does it matter if you just reply with the same subject line of "LASD CCW FIREARMS TRAINING" or does it have to only say "FIREARMS TRAINING"?

Can you let us know why you didn't care for the firing line class? I'm leaning towards goin to their one in Huntington Beach mostly due to location and cost.

He covers all the material you need. If you want more examples, more scenarios and want to spend more money take another class.

I did my initial training with him, the renewal a month ago and will go back in 2 years. I also took the class in HB.

QUICK UPDATE: Got the phone call and got asked supplemental questions (pretty much reviewed what was on my application) on 4/30, followed by training approval email on 5/07. Submitted training and proficency forms on 5/15. Now awaiting for pick up date.

Time line (RENEWAL):
3/28 - Renewal app/docs submitted
4/30 - Call received; app reviewed and submitted for approval
5/07 - Training Approval Email
5/15 - Training Cert and Proficiency Form submitted
5/17 - pick up date confirmed
6/09 - pick up and last payments

If you?re going through LASD, they are bogged down with initials and sifting through all the applicants. I made sure to denote RENEWAL on all the paperwork and envelopes. Next time, I?ll send my renewal at the 90 day mark to try get ahead of the wait.

I got my PTT over the weekend. My timeline is as follows:

March 28th 2022 - mailed my application to LASD
Did not send a money order I could track so not sure when it was cashed.
March 14th 2023 - interview at Sherman Block
June 9th 2023 - PTT

Your time line is right on track with mine! Our documents must be in the same stack.

The first hour was basically them pushing USCCA. Ninety percent of the classroom portion was watching videos from the 80's.

Don't get me wrong, Jim Bowen wasn't terrible. I did learn a few things. I just felt like watching videos for 90% of the class could have been spent differently. Just my personal opinion.

I would follow their directions exactly since I think they might be looking for specific subject line terms to give priority over the probably hundreds of emails they get per day.

We must be in the same group, timeline is almost the same as mine and was told the same timeframe. To clarify though it's 4-6 months to get the PTT email then you go get your firearms training, send that in and still wait more until you get to pick up your CCW in person.

Hi y'all. I tried googling but couldn't find the answer. For us in LA County will adding guns to an already completed CCW permit be tough? I only really have the money to get my Glock 20 and have that on my permit right now, and the whole point is so I have a woods gun for backpacking. Gun + practice ammo + training + fees + gearing up for backpacking is big cash for me right now. Plus I'm hoping a micro 9 like the 365 or Shield plus gets added to the roster soon.

If you’re applying through LASD, they have an FAQ entry that says no amendments right now unless your only gun is stolen or you’re renewing.

That’s LASD. If you live in a city within LA County that issues, they might have a more flexible policy.
