So, got a message on my phone I have to email to make an appointment for an interview. I passed my background check(of course) but when I signed up for this it was well over a year ago and before SB2.
My question(s) is, is it still worth it to proceed? What do I have to do beyond the interview, training, and qualification? Will I need character witnesses? I don't want to disturb my friends with this nonsense even though they would have no problem with it.

I picked up my ID today.

        To recap:
        01/01/23: Submitted application
        04/26/23: Livescan complete
        12/13/23: Interview
        01/10/24: Psych Exam
04/01/24: Received an approval email from Permitium to pay the final payment
05/05/24: Finished the 16hr class + range test
05/06/24: Emailed a copy of the certificate of completion
05/07/24: Called to schedule ID pickup at 400 County Center 3rd Floor
        Total Number of Days: 493

To share a few thoughts. Robin from Gun Kraft (https://www.gunkraft.com/training-ccw_california.htm), taught a great CCW training class. As a law enforcement officer himself, he cares for responsible gun ownership and possessed extensive expertise on the subject. Over the course of two days, Robin covered legal aspects, medical considerations, handling mental health crises, conducted conceal carry drills, and provided valuable shooting tips, all while keeping everyone fully engaged.

One thing I was not aware of before is as a San Mateo residence, our CCW status is tied to our vehicles. This means only I need to be cautious not only for myself but also for my spouse during traffic stops.
For anyone in the peninsula seeking a class, I do recommend Gun Kraft.

Finally, everyone I spoke with from San Mateo County in class took around 14 months for approval.

Welp... after 14 months of waiting and processing, I received notice that my application has been denied.

Has anyone here successfully requested a hearing from the "superior court of the county of your residence" to review the denial? I'm wondering if that's a big waste of time...

To quickly explain, I went through the entire process, including the psyche evaluation. But what they are rejecting me for is "abusing controlled substances" per Sections 11053 to 11058. I didn't lie on anything for my interviews or application and I admitted to rare recreational marijuana use, once every couple months at friend's gatherings (facepalm). The interviewer noted shortly after my admission that it could be a big problem even though it is legal in CA, it is federally illegal.

This has been a HUGE bummer. Was really looking forward to a positive outcome after such a long wait.

Please feel free to DM me if you have any advice. Thanks and good luck to everyone.

Thanks for posting! It's great to hear about the various vendors available for San Mateo County residents to get their CCW permits. I've heard nothing but great things about Gun Kraft and most of the other vendors out there.

I just wanted to touch on this comment though for just a second... here at Saber Tactics, all of our instructors are current peace officers in various agencies throughout San Mateo County. We can tell you from experience that no CCW data comes out when we run what's called a 10-28 - a registration check of a vehicle, which is commonly done at the start of a vehicle stop. The only information we receive is the DMV registration status of the vehicle (valid, expired, registration in progress, etc.) and who the registered owner (R/O) is. CCW status only follows an individual - not the car. So for instance, if we decided to run a person inside the vehicle for warrants or to verify their drivers license status, the CCW information MAY come out (but most likely won't... that could depend on the county). Although the State of California keeps a database on CCW holders, it doesn't always pass that information back down to individual jurisdictions.

I hope that helps clear that up!

Well today was the day. 477 days, 2 interviews, 400+ questionnaires, 16 hours of required training, unknown amount spent, today I picked up my laminate Drivers license sized permit. Long road guys but stick with it it can be done.

                    Hi Folks.

Have any of you submitted a permit renewal with the SMCSO?

I got my permit pretty soon after the Bruen decision, and am up for renewal soon. The SMC permitium site says I need to wait until 90 days before the expiration of the permit before submitting for a renewal, but somewhere else I heard 120 days.

Anyway, if anyone has experience with recent renewals post the new CA CCW laws, please post if you wouldn't mind.

                    Thanks!

You can renew up to 90 days prior to expiration.

90-120 days? given the time frames in this thread I wonder how slow they are on renewals and what happens if they dont respond and issue timely.

My renewal comes up in January so I am wondering this as well.

Thanks muchly. I'll submit exactly 90 days before, and let you know how it goes.

Looks like I'll be posting about my Renewal as well. Mine is coming up and I thought it was 120 Days. But just checked the site and it is indeed 90 Days prior to expiration. Means I have time to decide what to add to my list, and there's more to choose from the new additions to the Roster.

For those of us that applied for our CCW, we had to get "approved" by the SO before we could take our training class. Is this also the case with the renewals? I did my renewal thinking I needed approval from them like previously but now I'm second guessing that. Can I sign up for training now?
