    I believe you can take the renewal CCW class any time in that 90 day window.

      A quick follow-up now that the forums are back up.

      I submitted my renewal early August, and somewhat to my surprise I got an approval email, approval phone message and an approval txt message in about 3 days. It came with a list of approved training vendors. I didn't do anything other than submit the renewal online.

      Now....if only Smith and Wesson customer service was as fast as the Sheriff's office. In may I splurged and bought a 340pd (i know, stupid choice) to replace my 642 when I renewed. Well the cylinder pushed right off the end of the spindle when I reloaded the very first time, scratching up the fancy black finish as a bonus. As if it was never put together right in the first place. So I sent it back first week of July. Well they still have it and I'll be damn pissed off if I can't use it when I qualify in a couple weeks. Many calls to customer service all end in the response "it takes 6-8 weeks and there is nothing we can do to make it go quicker".

      so....SMCSO -> 2 thumbs up.....S&W....boo.....

        Sorry to hear of your S&W problem, but thrilled to hear the your renewal was so quick!

        I have one coming up early next year and was worried it would take 400 plus days LOL!

          Quick follow-up to this. I sent a message to the S/O and got a quick response back from them. I was told, "as is the case for renewals also, please do not sign up for a firearms training class until you are approved."

            I was incorrect. Just checked with SMSO and you require approval for renewals prior to taking the renewal class.

              So, regarding CCW renewal via the SMSO in San Mateo county, are there any new SB2 related requirements needed like psych exam or references?

              I've been told it's still 8 hours class/qual for renewals.

                Nothing new. It was exactly what you would expect if you lived in a reasonable place around reasonable and competent people. Which, being in CA, is a surprise. Just fill out the online form, pay the fee and wait for the reply. I didn't have any tickets or other naughties in the last years so if you have any of those, maybe it will be different. The training is 8 hours. If there was one "nice to have" I'd ask for some new material in the training. Currently, it was pretty much the same (maybe exactly) as the course from 2 years ago. Nothing wrong with that and the refresher is good, but it would be cool if the vendors were able to add new material every couple years. That said, I could have used a different vendor, but decided that last time went so well I didn't want to change.

                Anyway, good luck, hopefully you are as pleasantly surprised as I was.

                      Great news, and no tickets etc here, thanks for the good news!

                        I just heard back from the S/O about my renewal. Before they can issue a renewal, they need to conduct an interview.

                        I didn't have to do any type of interview for my initial permit, so it's interesting that I do have to do an interview for my renewal.

                          Did you have any naughties since your issuance?

                            I recently got an email that my application is moving forwards (I applied last year in September 2023). But they told me that they are removing my 22 LR pistol from the application (that was my only gun on the application). I thought we were allowed to have 22 LR pistols on our CCW in San Mateo?

                              Absolutely nothing. Literally a model citizen.

                                Very odd, maybe the policy just changed and you were on the unlucky side of the cutoff. I hadn't heard of interviews from the recent renewal folks (albeit a small sample size).
