        A quick update to share

        01/01/23: Submitted application
        04/26/23: Livescan complete

        I just had my interview. She is very friendly and last approximately 15 minutes with 31 questions via MSFT Teams. Identical questions as noted from others with the addition of
        * Served in the military
        * My experience with firearms

        General questions were asked:
        * How long have you lived at your current address
        * Who do you live with
        * How old are you kids
        * Where do you work, what do you do and how long
        * How would your family / co-workers describe you
        * Have you ever applied to CCW
        * Have you ever been:
        -- Detain (this includes traffic stop or any interactions with police)
        -- Arrested
        -- Civil lawsuits
        -- Physical/ verbal altercations
        -- In a gang
        * Taking pysch meds
        * Any other meds that will hinder the handling of firearm
        * Do you drink alcohol

        The next step is a psych exam. It will cost $150.00 with around 400-500 questions.
        If anyone gone through a psych exam, I would love to hear your experience.

        Thanks

          Tonyl, you might want to call the SMSO and double check on the psych exam. Their website states that:
          "The Sheriff's Office will be requiring psychological testing for all NEW applicants effective July 1, 2023."

          I have confirmed that with Gina, I got my permit without taking the psych exam. The only difference was, the same interviewer (Vielka?) called back twice to clarify my responses on the first interview.

            gemini1,

            I just sent an email tonight to Robert Pronske and Vielka McCarthy to confirm.

            update:

            This is what Robert wrote:
            “... The Sheriff's Office is requiring testing of all applicants who had not been issued a permit prior to July 1st. Thank you.”

            They must have changed their policy post Sept. 2022.

              Hi all - just a quick note. We are unaffected by the Emergency Rule/ SB2 as we are all POST certified firearms instructors. We know a lot of people are going to be effected by this change so we're going to be increasing the amount of classes to help take care of everyone. If your class gets cancelled with another vendor, please keep an eye on our website as we add more classes. Feel free to message us here or email at training@sabertactics.com if you need any help.

                Now I just need to find a vendor... The first two web sites I looked at (Bat and 2aFA) seems broken across all three browsers I tried, so the options seem somewhat limited
                Had a great class with Robin at Guncraft, would definitely recommend! (tip, if you want to get on his good side, bring donuts )

                Initially scheduled with Saber, but due to a little snafu on my side, I had to cancel. Even with all the pressure and work theyre seeing from all the new permits, they showed some excellent communications and customer service, so big kudos to them too!

                Picked up my renewed permit yesterday, so good for another two years! \o/
                While there, they mentioned that they have gone from ~300 permits to closer to 3000! Considering that only 5-10% of those 300 were new each year, they've gone from 15-30 new permits / year to~2500! That's some pretty crazy scale-up.

                Big kudos to Jennifer down at the SMSD for always being so positive and service minded. I can only imagine how this changed her job situation over the last year!

                  I would like to categorically state the rumors regarding donut bribes are false and completely without merit.

                  It was a nice gesture though; Gose was the first student who brought treats to a class. So kudos to him for doing that.

                    SMC Sheriff taking forever...Intentional stalling?

                    I'm curious if there are any current lawsuits pending against the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department for taking so much time to process Concealed Carry Permits? 10 months and counting...

                      LOL, that's because SM wasn't issuing until last year

                      10 mo. is long but it's 14+ mo now. No lawsuit as SM is actually the first county in bay area to get behind it

                        When I first got my permit 12y ago, it took 3-4mo and that was when the county processed ~25 new permits / year.
                        Now they are processing 100x that, with little to no increase in resourcing, so even 14mo isnt too bad...

                        SM has always been the most reasonable county in the bay area, I'm sure they're doing the best they can with what they have and have been given.

                          I grew up in San Mateo County and generally agree, just not on this issue. There is simply no excuse for an agency that for decades refused to have a robust CCW program. Only when prompted into it by the SCOTUS and other decisions, to redeploy resources appropriately in response to "getting caught".

                          I'd go along with a month or two delay forming the new organization and hire resources- but that attempt was and remains trivial at best and it shows. The new Sheriff had the perfect opportunity to make it happen- she was "new" and changes were expected by her staff and by the Supes.
                          If you don't know where you are going, any road will take you there

                              Hi

                              Question for all with the CCW process (completed or aware).

                              Is the Interview a Pass / Fail? Those who have done the Psy Eval, are there questions on there like "Do you watch ****?" Also after the Psy is done, are you told that you at that point need to get the green light go ahead from the Sheriff to do the training?

                              Thanks!

                                My renewal for CCW is later this year Oct 2024. With all the fiasco going on with CCW licensing, how early should I begin the renewal process?
                                - whats the new law requirements for renewals?
                                - psych eval?
                                - how many required hours?
                                Thank you
