Most of my questions were answered. I called the CCW office in Monterey Park but they seemed reluctant to answer my questions. I believe we still must specify good cause, not just simply write down 'self defense'.

I read through the entire contents on this thread from page 1 and it seems that most people recommend that the sooner you submit your app. to be on the waiting list, the better. One person recommended that I wait a few months and another said to forget about it in frustration. Of course, I'm not following the second person's advice. The first person who told me to wait also said that activities or business involving large sums of money are the best and most favorable good causes.

From what I've been reading, it seems that L.A. County won't give in unless there are several lawsuits or it's forced to comply. Until then, writing 'self-defense' as good cause seems insufficient.

I have filled out the entire contents of the application. Would you guys recommend I submit it or wait until L.A. County recognizes the Peruta ruling?

It's the certificate for the required training class that's listed on the bottom of page 1 of the Standard Application for License to Carry a Concealed Weapon (CCW) for L.A. County.

Wow, just looked at the list, I'm surprised they even have a published list considering how few permits they issue.

Finally received a letter from LASD stating they received my check and will be wait listed due to the influx of applications using the "self defense" reasoning.

I received the same letter this past Friday. Still haven't heard of anyone making any progress past this point. If you hear anything from them, please keep me updated. I will do the same. Good for you for at least making it to this step!

              LASD Procedures

I submitted my LASD CCW application on 3 Dec. 2014. It was received 5 Dec. The check was cashed on 15 Dec. I have heard nothing. What's their procedure? I never got a Peruta letter. Thanks, Bob.

EDIT: The Peruta letter was received on 13 Feb. 2015.

What are reasons other than self defense?

Take your pick. Personally, I think LAPD is much closer to issuing than LASD.

If we make guns illegal, nobody will get shot anymore. That's how we stopped people from doing illicit drugs.

                  ~tower, out.

What makes you think LAPD is more likely? They're stuck with good cause.

Because they are at least issuing appointments and LASD is just taking your money at this point

You apply for your CCW in the city you live in. Unincorporated areas apply with LASD. Correctamundo?

Not quite. You can apply to LASD w/o applying to your local city first. Liu v Baca clarified that.

IIRC, Brandon/"wildhawker" said LA is appealing Lu.

I just updated this thread's title and icon per the info in the sheriff's letter in post #414 (Thanks, scope02) and #594. (Thanks, tower)

PM me if there's a reason to change either back or to change them to something else.
