Where is the NRA? Time to call in the cavalry and get national support! Surprisingly no mention of it in yesterday's email.

Anyone who gets arrested in California for using large cap (>10 rounds) magazines with a bullet button deserves what they get and is doing all of us a disservice. The law is pretty settled that you cannot have large cap. mags in California, period. Someone who goes out and provokes a lawsuit over some obscure legal argument that a bullet-button+large cap mag configuration is legal is simply inviting totalitarians like Yee to "close the loophole" and introduce further legislation to erode our rights. Just like the fools who just had to open carry their black rifles in shopping malls etc. provoked further legislation against our open carry rights. I hope Calguns is not encouraging this sort of thing.
Fact is that the average citizen is completely oblivious to all of these legal arguments. But the average citizen knows that he does not want "activists" running around with black rifles at shopping malls upsetting the little mommies and can be convinced that high cap mags should be outlawed. We are much better off not provoking the totalitarians and instead staying off their radar screen.
The above does not mean that we should not defend our 2d Amendment rights in Court. We should, and thank goodness and Calguns, we do. But we should not provoke anti-gun legislation. Legislation passes quickly. Court battles to overturn legislation takes many years.Comment

Yea signed, but truly what are the chances of defeating this thing. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but we are far from the majority in this **** hole we call CA. I mean look at the last big election results flat out communist won where they lost everywhere else in the nation with a few exceptions. I'm not saying don't fight but we need to bring in the big guns with BIG MONEY to get this defeated I.e the NRA or equivalent pro gun group. I'm on a rant but what is it going to take to get even non gun owners involved in defeating this and others bills that strip away our Constitutional rights. I feel like I am living in 1939 Austria right now with my rights being slowly stripped away, we (this country) is on a slippery path not sure where we're going to end up.Using gun control to stop crime is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline!
You don't have to get permission to exercise a RIGHT. If you have to get permission or can be told no by the government it is no longer a right. IT IS A PRIVILEGE!

Agreed. I know my rights but I'm not going to the mall or any other public municipality with my weapons to shove my rights into the face of others. Unless you convince the public otherwise, walking down the road yeilding a pistol or black rifle scares people - Period.
If you are compelled to exercise your rights to the extreme in this state, you better have the right attorney and deep pockets.Comment

I suspect he was referring to this sentence, which is factually inaccurate. I presume you meant "In a gun with a bullet button." the law is quite clear that you can have late capacity magazines in CA but the manner of acquisition is quite limited and generally prohibited.

Apparently, if you believe the frothing hysteria drummed up by this thread. If you do, join in the fray. If not, proceed as usual. Just don't use a mag magnet on your guns and you are good.sigpic

And thus the mag magnent can not ever be "affixed to a firearm with a fixed magazine" since it's a detachable magazine in that instant. Of course that's nonsense so your working definition of affixed has a problem. If you're right, this law does nothing (except have crap made up by California Courts.) If you're wrong, this law sweeps more broadly than your working definition.

Oh, I know it sweeps into some areas that it shouldn't, and that's why it needs to be defeated. BUT I really believe that so far there's a lot of mountains being made out of molehills, while nobody's wanting to talk about the actual volcano that's sitting there burbling away.NRA Life Member

You are correct; my sentence was inaccurate, although it was sensical in the context of the discussion. I should have written that it is illegal to acquire or sell large cap magazines unless you are one of the Government's favored elites. Personally I do not use my earlier-acquired large caps because I cannot prove when I acquired mine, which was circa 1981-82. Once in a while I see a bold soul at the range using a grandfathered large cap.Comment
