Default AR15 Assembler check list

I know there was a list here at one time. I can't find it, so I just made another one. Several people have asked for one, so I figured I would just type one out. This is basically from memory so PLEASE if you spot an error tell me so I can change it. Copy this, paste it and print it. Then use it while you are buying all the parts for your next build.

The major Assembly is on the left, parts inside that assembly (SUB-ASSEMBLIES) are under tabbed to the right. So you can check to see if the part you are buying has all the sub-assemblies needed with it.

ar15builderpartslist.pdf <-- needs check box for lower itself, but isnt that big a deal This is for printing
AR15-SchematicPDF.pdf <-- Very nice visual ref.

Plz see post #4 for a clean copy of this,
#16 for an updated PDF file
Post #20 for a PDF with computer check boxes
and Post #24 for Brownell's own order form, its 14 pages long, this single page makes a great cover page for that!!!!

Good luck.

Mine I put in a diferent thread was a little less detailed

Upper consists of
[ ]Complete upper reciever
[ ]Complete Bolt Carrier Group
[ ]Charging handle
[ ]Barrel
[ ]Gas block
[ ]Gas block tube and roll pin
[ ]Flash suppressor and crush washer
[ ]Free float handguard
or
[ ]Delta ring, spring and retainer
[ ]Handguard
[ ]Handguard cap

Lower consists of
[ ]Stripped lower
[ ]Lower parts kit
[ ]Buffer, buffer tube and buffer spring
[ ]Buttstock
[ ]Bullet Button (for rifles with evil features)

To assemble the upper you will need some special tools
Upper receiver action block
Armorers tool

For the lower if you don't have an armorers tool you will need a buttstock wrench if you have a collapsible buttstock.

Yeah I know there was a check list here with a spot you could actually "check" off. When I get back from dinner i will try to work on making it look better with better tabs.

Well Dean, I think between my list and Dons adding [ ] check boxes to the whole list, there is no reason to use my word doc. The only thing different is no ----- and the [ ] are circles.

still if anyone spots an error or missing assembly or sub-assemly tell me. I will edit the first post.

Default Finally got list into PDF

Sooo, how does this work for PDF version? I made it a single sheet, mult-column layout. Too bad the [IMG] tags don't work on PDF.

It's a great effort.

Otoh, the same posts will continue as few here know about internet search engines...9 v. .45, ar v. ak, 870 v. 500, etc.

Good holidays.

Just noticed no check off for the OLL itself...

I'll fix my first post if you can fix the PDF that would be great. I'll add the pdf when you have fixed it. If its going to cause problems on the 1 page thing dont bother. I feel the 1 page aspect is a big +
Also at the top add AR15A3 (Flat Top) I forgot to add the A2 BUIS parts to the upper and dont feel it needs to be there..

If you do tell me. Its nothing to add them but it does increase the list size.

This helps a noobie like me immensely. It's no longer a big black box, but a blueprint layout which helps me visualize. Thumbs up

Thanks DeanW66, Dieselpower, and others who contributed to this build list. I'm just starting to research the AR-15 platform and now I've got a starting point. Way too many choices! I friend of mine has an older converted M16 he thinking about selling that I'm going to look into, also.

I felt it pertinent to carry my weight as a newcomer here so I made your PDF computer optimized(most PDF readers will now enable checking off your boxes within it). slightly tedious but worth it for the tech generation of my peers who will have our iPads and other toys with us sometimes while cleaning/assembling/disassembling. Its also girlfriend/wife friendly if they want to help you keep track of where you're at.

[TIP; open the document and "save as" something new to insure that your checks save where they're at]

If possible add a trigger pin slave pin. It imo is one of the best tools. I had a complete upper thurs evening seriously in 15 or 20 minutes. The slave pin made it go so much quicker. I got my slave pins from buying gisselle triggers.

thanks for the PDF! right now, deciding whether or not i want to build or just buy already assembled... hmm...

just a suggestion for the PDF, could you make it so that the checking off of the parts can be saved? tried it earlier with Adobe Reader, said I could check the boxes but could not save. thanks again!!!

Try to "save as" and enter a new name or ammend it the first time you open it, this should allow all changes to save if you close it. Let me know. (p.s fixed a multiple checking error, new file up).

awesome guys. This was meant as a down and dirty copy/paste/print sheet for any builder. Its past that with the added stuff you all have done and I am sure it will be much appreciated by anyone.

Thanx a bunch for the check boxes, I know that had to be a PITA...lol

So it can be used two ways, one on the computer desk top, the other as a printed checklist to keep with your build.

That Brownell's is awesome too, but its 14 pages. But its also nice to have space to write prices and junk..whatever all things that help you get the job done are cool.

save this, link this, share this. Its a quick down a dirty list everyone should have.

No problem. I think the thread is a great show of community spirit so I updated the OP to cue readers to look at the other posts in the thread.

It would be great if other people added down-loadable files to this thread then I will update my OP drawing attention to that post #.

I am going to add an expanded exploded view of the AR15 shortly

I have a good amount of hosting space for documents and files with easy access to single downloadable links so if you guys need a place to host the files let me know, I'll upload em and post the links here for usage site wide.

this check list is ok, but the exploded view and my two links to the US Military manuals on the rifle are mandatory for any owner (IMHO that is LOL)

Please remember not to charge people for us military information...they already paid for it with their tax dollars... I hate it when on-line companies charge for government generated information...its public property. /rant

The Two TMs are so needed. Its awesome to print the whole document, then place it in a binder and have as a reference on your rifle. Its like a gold mine of information on your rifle...I can not stress enough that people need to look over the two TMs in my links.

One is basic, the other is a bit more indepth...both are GOLDEN!

Wanted to say thanks for the info. The TM's are golden. Do you have a 23P I could get?
