I wouldn't let anybody on the range without a reflective belt. No exceptions.

And steel toe boots, long sleeve shirt (sleeves rolled down), ear and eye pro. No exceptions.

.....and body armor, with plate........and helmets. No exceptions.

Oh, yeah. You have to do your ORM risk assessment and a safety brief prior to going live. No exceptions.

( Yeah I still think Meryl Streep is a no talent skank that is promoted only because of her anti gun views )

However I think this thread has merit, and although I disagree with many views, its interesting to read comments.

Through dialog maybe we have a chance to further the " gun culture" and all rights associated with it.

I would request calgunners make your opinions known regarding dress codes and keep an open mind to all views .

I believe we should dress at public ranges like proffesional golfers ! Long decent pants, collared shirts and sturdy shoes or boots . For cooler weather why not wear an older sports jacket ?

Of course shooting jackets should be used for prone and field position shooting for the best rifle groups .
We should be endeavoring to make this sport an inclusive club not an exclusive one as the OP wishes. Professional USPSA shooters don't dress like professional golfers for crissakes. We are dying, you may not realize it, but we are. As long as you are not endangering others, "come as you are".

I posted a poll. You don't need to make the effort and expend the time to read it. No one is forcing you. Yet you lack the self control not to pass it by given the fact you comment about the rest of my "post(s)". Interesting.

Then you claim that "it's not worth the time or effort to respond" yet you continue to do just that. That has to be the worst possible way to troll.

            LOL!

Yes, that's exactly what your (worthless) posting is.

Downright sad that anyone would consider eye/ear protection (as an example) as "control freak" material.

Perhaps you're just projecting a touch?

True! I would also add that someone who has NEVER been to a range could page through this thread and understand very quickly that there are trolls here who probably act just as poorly at shooting ranges.

                          Not really.

As an example, using eye/hearing protection should begin from the beginning. It shouldn't have anything to do with a learning curve -- but I'm sure that it is all too often sadly enough.

                              Your comments are not accurate.

When I asked about a dress code at a shooting range it has to do almost 100% with safety and liability. It's not about excluding anyone. Quite the opposite I hope you gleaned that from the productive comments in this thread.

There is also the ancillary issue not not dressing (even if it's safe) in a matter that's threatening or disgusting (gang wear, etc.) to others. A good way to exclude or drive away people from the shooting sports is to stock public ranges with threatening looking people.

FWIW, most pro USPSA, ICORE, Steel Challenge, shooters DO dress in a way that's analogous to PGA golfers. Caps, polo shirts with collars (although the PGA might not allow as many advertisements), typically long pants (some pro shooters do wear shorts in the hotter months and all of pro golf except the top PGA also allow shorts.) I suspect the pro shooters dress as well as they do out of both pride and sponsors' requirements.

Look at this thread very carefully. Some of the childish trolling that actually takes exception to eye/ear protection is one small reason why the shooting community struggles.

LOL! This thread has generated a little bit of light but mostly heat and sparks.

Were I in charge of a range, open to the general public I would be compelled for reasons of liability to mandate eye and ear protection. If the agency that provides liability coverage were to give me a significant discount on premiums for mandating close toed shoes I would mandate those as well. It wouldn't matter if I was a county supervisor or a private landowner operating a range, liability is liability and insurance premiums affect the bottom line no matter who is paying them.

If I were operating a private membership based club, I would prefer my patrons not wear apparel with racial epithets or profanity..basically any words Kestryll would not want us posting here on his forum.

Tank tops never bothered me and I can't see the issue with those. Gang apparel might be tricky to sort out: for example, does anything with the Raiders emblem automatically count as gang apparel? A red/blue/black hoodie? Back when I was in highschool one could get shot over a red bomber jacket and a visiting church group from the Midwest was admonished to be careful. Hassling people over their alleged gang apparel could open one up to more lawsuits than their insurance carrier can stomach and that'll get a place shut down as quickly as anything.

That being said, for the last 25 years, 8 months out of the year I'd shoot revolvers, slow firing 1911s and bolt guns in cargo shorts, tank top and flip flops, got many a hot case in my hair, down my shirt or on top of my feet and never acted like a crybaby- just shake it out and keeping the gun pointed downrange and continue shooting. Running ARs or 1911s hot like all the folks in the carbine classes do, I'll wear close toed shoes now.
