I don't know who you hang with but Ive been shooting weekly at public ranges for at least 3 decades and have had the honor of instructing over 1000 persons.

I really never noticed the behavior your post indicates when someone gets an attitude the minute they get their hands on a gun.

As a side the shooter kept his composure made a smooth draw and eliminated the threat with 1 center mass shot. Hardly an idiot ! Now a guy who attacks in stealth an older apparently weaker man is not an idiot either. He was a coward!

      You know Sir,
just because you have embarrassed yourself on a public forum by arguing the ridiculous.
That is no reason to attack me personally about gun ownership or how Im a threat to RKBA!

But I forgive you because the big antigun democrat media has you so brainwashed and your mind so flushed with garbage that all you have left is to attack people who have presented fact!

        Yep..

Assaulting someone (violent push) is a bad idea, especially in free states.

If you have a CCW it's a good idea to avoid confrontations whenever possible since things can escalate very quickly.

A sad event that was completely avoidable.

I actually became more polite and non-confrontational once I got my CCW.. I don't need the aggrivation of using my gun and most things in life are just not as big a deal as people make them out to be.

The "change the minute they get a gun" sounds like some rubbish an anti-gunner would spout.

So what, you actually think our experiences are going to be the same?
They are not, time and again I've watched people strap a gun on and suddenly become "tough", when they aren't carrying they are meek.
Your experience "at the range" doesn't mean anything to me, I am talking about real life.

They are both idiots, the shooter for getting himself in that situation, screaming at the woman instead of letting it go, and he let the shootee get the drop on him.
The shootee is an idiot for lacking any self control, in Florida no less.

One is dead, the other may be made an example of, idiots.

Oh please. Were are you seeing people “strap on guns” “time and again”?

How many people do you personally know that carry a firearm, and how many of those are supposedly “meek” when not carrying.

Please don’t spare the details, I’m getting a whiff of BS.

And when I tell you, you will say "oh please I smell BS" again, there's no point in going down that road for me.

Both of these men were idiots, for the reasons I already gave.
Anyone thinking otherwise, probably shouldn't have a gun.

I'll keep my eye on the story, watch how it pans out.

No, you CANNOT tell me because, upon reading my question, you realize you’ve painted yourself into a corner with bulls—-.

Seriously, how many people do you know that carry a firearm? And, of those, how many fit your claim?

That’s what you want to believe, and you made up the anecdote to support it. It’s crap. I’ve never met anyone who fits your fantasy narrative. Are there such guys, sure there are. Are they enough that you’ve seen it “time and again”?

                          Please.

Don’t profess to tell others who should or shouldn’t have a gun. Your fantasy crap has already revealed what you project on others.

They weren’t “both” idiots, one guy initiated a conversation. There is nothing legally or morally wrong with that.

Let's ask a different question. If the assault happened as-is, and Drejka managed to draw and shoot while he is falling down, would you consider it to be a "good shot"? If so, the only question is about the mechanics of the draw and when the decision was made. If not, then we need to look at the legal definition of both "assault" and "self defense."

BTW, you're both wrong about "manslaughter." The victim hasn't been charged with manslaughter because the elements of the crime are not there. It's not my opinion or decision, it's the opinion and the decision of the local DA.
Come on now. If the threat ends before you take a shot, you can not take the shot because you are no longer in reasonable fear for your life. The law doesn't allow for this delay. Either you're in imminent danger, or you're not. There's no middle ground.

If he shot while he was getting pushed, he'd be much, much closer to the line. Personally, I'd still think it's a bad shoot, but I wouldn't convict based on it. But based on what happened in this video? Don't let the jail door hit you on the way in.

For the last point, the opinion of the local DA doesn't matter with regards to my point. There have been plenty of times when government gets it very, very wrong. This is one of them.

It's quite simple. Don't shoot people as they're backing away. Especially here in CA. Good luck with the DA doing the same thing the one in FL did.

He had drawn and fired to protect himself against a violent unprovoked attack which had already occurred . He had no way way to know in a second or 2 that the threat was not to continue.

The sheriff said so and BTW the sheriff knows lots more about this individual than you do.

His record of aggravated battery will come out and every decent person throughout the USA will feel a sense of relief that this horrible thug is no longer a threat or liability to society. A civil suit will not happen either as it was clearly self defense.

I really am having trouble understanding why a few cal gunners have identified with someone who violently and without warning shoved someone to the ground and stupidly think this person will cease the attack based on a video.
What's even worse are those who feel a citizen has no right to talk with persons who are disregarding society's rules.
