      That is literally nonsense.
No. One must be convincted of a felony to be a felon.

Citation please, to a statute or published case decision so holding.

I think that GBA called this one correctly.

          Legal definition of felon.

Felon: n. a person who has been convicted of a felony, which is a crime punishable by death or a term in state or federal prison. See also felony.

Teehee. Calguns is the only forum where you can't ask a question without being ridiculed. Lotsa people here only feel good about themselves when they're putting others down. They'll read things into a post that aren't there to accomplish it. Low self esteem is epidemic here.

            Quite amusing, really.

best example above of someone that has to put others down to feel good.

The mere allegation of criminal activity without adjudication means nothing. There's this thing called "due process". I hear there's even a document somewhere outlining what that is and how it's implemented. Please show US or state criminal code listing stating otherwise.

I see your point, but the noun of "Felon" simply identifies a person as one who has committed felonious activity. There is no statute or case citation to provide since this is a question of English language and not of law. As such there is room for folks to disagree about the use of language.

The reason that I asked you to provide a citation, is that you seemed to have "morphed" the language issue into a legal issue, and this posting seems to have confirmed that belief.

As legal issue, a "Convicted Felon" is one who has been convicted, was provided due process, and disenfranchised as a result. But that's not the way I saw GBA using the term.

A person who has committed a felony is a felon, and upon conviction of a felony in a court of law is known as a convicted felon or a convict.

Doesn't matter how he used it. A felon is one convicted of a felony, and is redundant.

hmmm, things I wouldn't want to happen to me...and would ensure I comply with the law to avoid:

                          1. Getting arrested for transporting an unregistered AW
                          2. Hiring and PAYING for a lawyer to prove entrapment

Like I said, I'll let someone else be "that guy" who gets to deal with the arrest and paying to possibly clear their name. Simply not worth it IMO.

Besides, the 1/1/17-12/31/17 period where you can POSSESS an unregistered AW doesn't say anything about TRANSPORTING that unregistered AW. An area that is black and white from my perspective but apparently grey to others. Possession and transportation are not the same thing. To each their own.

Tough Crowd today OP but Nor Cal has summed it up pretty well for you.

I converted all 3 of my ARs to featureless late last year because I wanted to try out many different configurations. After trying most of the mainstream configs I settled on the Thordson and the Exile Grip Fin. To be honest I'm actually liking the featureless config. Pinned stock turned out to be amazing and getting rid of the bullet button was a win as well.

Anyone who bought their AR between 2001 and 2017 has until the end of the year to either register, go featureless, or go with one of the new devices that modifies their riffle so that the action must be opened in order to reload. And there are also people who have registered assault weapons from prior to 2001.

I take my unregistered AR's that are currently configured as "bullet button equipped Ca assault weapons" to the range all the time and feel comfortable shooting them in public. I am not breaking any laws by doing so.
