Wow, I've never been called a snowflake before. There's lots of anger in this thread. Believe me, I look forward to the day I can move to a free state. Maybe my post wasn't worded well, but I try to be careful about what I post about myself on public forums (as we all should), and was trying to understand what risk I would run by running a non-featureless setup that I historically don't leave the house with unless training out of state. Thanks to those who offered real feedback. To the rest of you, don't be so sensitive.

"Assault Rifles" at the Range

OP, this is what triggered most of the negative towards you responses. If you don't call complete strangers felons without any proof, you may get "better" answers.Question for those in the know...
Whenever I go to the range with my ridiculous California compliant AR, I see most of the other lanes have non-compliant rifles being fired. What's the deal? There's no way they're all LEOs, so how is it that these guys feel so comfortable sporting their felonies in public? Is there no risk once at the range, or is there something I'm missing?
Thanks in advance.
I have no problem people have any rifle configuration they want. And I don't discuss their choice. We are all adults, and as such, we should be able to decide for ourselves.
MYOB is a very good idea. "Can I do this" is one thing, "Why do they do this" is completely different deal...https://jpfo.org/articles-assd03/jew-without-gun.htm

Well, to those oversensitive folks who think everybody is out to tattle, I offer the immortal words of Sergeant Hulka, "Lighten up, Francis".OP, this is what triggered most of the negative towards you responses. It's not ready.
Welcome to the California DOJ Bureau of Firearms The Bureau of Firearms serves the people of California through education, regulation, and enforcement actions regarding the manufacture, sales, ownership, safety training, and transfer of firearms. Which is why the OP is flat out wrong about people "sporting felonies in public" by using featured rifles at the range. He either misunderstood the new laws and passed judgment based on his own misunderstanding, or he simply bought into the online FUD about the legality of using and possessing featured rifles in 2017.Anchors Aweigh

So don't agree then, but you are wrong. Statute + action = felony. No court needed.
One need not be convicted of a crime to have committed that crime.
That is literally nonsense. No law or ordinance created after the creation of the Bill of Rights of Constitution can be altered or touched.Last edited by God Bless America; 05-11-2017, 10:28 AM.Comment

Most ranges don't care and most cops don't either. The ones that do are trying to be more then a range and the cops are do are just busy bodies trying to prove something. The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!Comment

As long as the shooters to my left and right are being safe and not doing anything to infringe on my activities/enjoyment/safety, I tend not to worry about others. They are adults and will do what they will do for their own reasons, being informed or not.
As of 1/1/2017 if you had a BB semi-automatic rifle that met all of the "AW" criteria, you now have an AW (regardless of where the official registration process is or is not). You have until 12/31/17 to do a number of things to either keep or rid yourself of said AW. So you may possess your rifle that is now technically an AW, but I don't believe you are allowed to transport an unregistered AW (kind of a catch 22 since you can't yet register your AW...so folks shooting what may be an AW have other things to be concerned with besides actually shooting their AW at the range.
Here's the language on California Penal Code section 30945, subdivision (g) regarding the transportation of registered (key word) AWs.
HANDGUNS Pursuant to California Penal Code section 25610, a United States citizen over 18 years of age who is not prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, may transport by motor vehicle any handgun provided it is unloaded and locked in the vehicle’s trunk or in a locked container. Furthermore, the handgun must be carried directly to or from any motor vehicle for any lawful purpose and, while being carried must be contained within a locked container.
Personally, considering how messy this situation is (unsettled registration process, classification of a rifle, etc.), if I owned what is today considered a rifle in an AW configuration (i.e., an unregistered AW), I most definitely would not be transporting it to/from the range. Don't need to be "that guy" that becomes the example.Comment

If you got arrested for transporting an unregistered assault weapon while it is impossible to register it you would easily be able to prove entrapment. As long as the shooters to my left and right are being safe and not doing anything to infringe on my activities/enjoyment/safety, I tend not to worry about others. They are adults and will do what they will do for their own reasons, being informed or not.
