I forgot to add one thing...I usually wear my Calguns shirt when doing PPTs, not necessarily intentionally, but I do wear it a lot on weekends. Maybe that's why I had such good experiences. Perhaps they didn't want any bad feedback. Plug for shirts: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=898063

Ffls that always complain about doing a ppt

I understand your response, however since I am one of the few shops in my area that will actually do them (the others outright refuse) I doubt it's our attitude. I'm also one of the very few shops that will accept safekeeping guns, but that's a separate issue. I know the lack of returning customers because of our computerized system where we collect your name and place you into our rewards program. I don't care where the cap came from, I'm just trying to explain where the attitude comes from and if you think it's bad now, what happens when minimum wage goes to $15 and shops lose $6 a transaction?
PPT's are a necessary pain, but maybe all of you who do them and put yourself in the shoes of the shop for a minute, just saying
And Tovarish, since you don't know me or my business anymore than I know you maybe you should keep your opinions about why people return or don't to yourself. Unless you are an FFL you only see your limited side of the PPT process.Last edited by HardwoodRods; 05-24-2016, 10:13 PM."A free people ought to be armed" George Washington, 1790

I haven't done a PPT at Turners since 2002 and I refuse to buy or sell with anyone that wants to. Which limits my business with Turners. Ontario AB has beem good for PPT. Once I did one and I bought 2 guns from them as well that I'd had never known were there if I hadn't been there for the PPT.Well I've had good and bad. The bad...turners. Always complain about it with the exception of one guy at the Victorville store. The good...ammo bros Ontario. These guys were almost ashamed that it took 25 min for me to be in and out. They really made the ppt easy and I e bought quite a bit new from them since because of it.Comment

I doubt this. Most people here don't realize the vast majority of CA gun owners don't know or care about CGN. I have a feeling only a few thousand actually post and the rest of the active members are only here for the marketplace.I forgot to add one thing...I usually wear my Calguns shirt when doing PPTs, not necessarily intentionally, but I do wear it a lot on weekends. Actually I have heard of gun shop owners disliking CGNers for various reasons. One main one being they are cheap. Which to them means being more educated than the general gun buying public how to get the best price on a gun.Comment

No, I don't know how you handle your customers. As far as I know you might serve their PPTs to them on a silver platter. That's fair.I understand your response, however since I am one of the few shops in my area that will actually do them (the others outright refuse) I doubt it's our attitude. If I were running the business I would treat a PPT as an interview or a test drive, and I would treat every PPT customer like a future loyal customer even if I knew perfectly well most of them won't come back. But hey, you're the business owner.Comment

I've done two PPTs at Oaktree, and both were fine. They were busy both times, but you take a number and wait just like everyone else.
I have a local kitchen-table FFL who handles all my transfers from out of state. He charges $50 including DROS, so he makes $25 over 3000 times a year. Yep, he's retired and DROSs over 3k guns a year. He usually is home, but also goes to local gun shows and does DROSs for out of area vendors there. He's done dozens of guns for me, mostly from Bud's.Comment

Nod to that. They know it's their daily chore but they do it with expedience, respect, and a handshake. I been through a dozen times or so and each time, there's a rep explaining to a customer about the bells and whistles luring them in and a suitable alternative based on their experience level. This is the harsh reality of the business. Something you're entitled to do - and forced to. IF you're treated right, you should have the common sense and common decency to make a purchase while you're there. I can always use cleaner, lube, targets, ammo, guns, etc... If the store is a good one then open up your wallet and support them.
On the other side, if the store whines, complains, makes nasty jokes, and rolls their eyes, then they can expect nothing from me.iTrader: 52 transactions, 100% positive.Comment

i bought a few from guns direct, but every time i tried to do a PPT they gave me a detour. they told me they don't do PPT on the weekends, and another time they told me they would not PPT more than one gun. i needed 2 guns PPT to me at the same time from the same seller. i went to aegis each time guns direct wouldnt do it. Aegis was always cool except the time that i PPT my hk to my friend who is a female. they thought i was a felon and they immediately said "what did you do? you know that you cant be in the same home as her even if the gun is in her name"
i told them i wasnt a criminal just selling a gun to a friend.Comment

So the law basically requires that gun shops get free foot traffic for private purchases, putting everything in their shop in front of pre-screened potential customers that have to stand around and wait for 30 minutes or more, and they have the stupidity to complain about it.
I don't shop at places that ***** or have ridiculous policies regarding PPT's. I often buy stuff while I am there, and if they ***** about doing one I assume everyone who works there is a complete moron. I've never been to Oaktree, but their reputation as being run by a moron is well known already, so I'm not surprised by this.Comment

Go somewhere else, it's that simple. Most people cannot handle working with the public without "cutting edge" sarcasm & crappy comments. Don't like your job? Look for another one, that's what it comes down to sometimes.Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!Comment

LOL, $10 was hardly "real" money in the 90's. Had you said 60's or 70's then maybe, but not in 91' when this requirement started.I disagree. in the 90's, when the PPT requirement came about, the dealers pushed for the law. they saw that $10 fee as real money and 3 forced customer visits to their shop without having to advertise for their business. unfortunately for them, $10 isn't worth what it once was, and what was once a money-maker is no longer. CADOJ pushes for DROS fee increases when they need them, but there is nobody pushing for PPT fee increases.Comment
