Ffls that always complain about doing a ppt

So I've been to oak tree about 3 times in the last month or so for a ppt and they ALWAYS complain about doing a ppt. It starts with
    "may I help you"
"Yes, here for a ppt please"
    "Oh great, yay (sarcasm)"
    Then they tell each other:
"We make no money on ppts"
Then as the guy goes to grab something another guy asks if I'm being helped, then the other guy says "ppt". Then the other guy says, "ok, not really helping you , just doing paperwork".
This last time wasn't as bad as the previous when the Spanish guy said the system was down and took over an hour to do a ppt. If they weren't always *****ing about it, I might buy some ammo , and I've bought guns there before.

Guns direct in burbank on the other hand, never complain, get you in and out asap, which is why I always buy something from them, even though I may not really need it. I even stopped buying guns from oak tree, for this very reason and just meet there for ppts and set aside extra time.

    Anyone else experience this?

I've done 4 or 5 this year at Oaktree, and never had an issue. As a matter of fact, far better than many FFLs I've used over the years.

Having said that, if you're looking for a great FFL in the SCV, Shawn at Whiskey Tango is your man.

One of the reasons I try and stay away from Turners for transfers. They do the same thing the majority of the time. I don't fully trust them not to handle/play with the guns being transferred and it takes for ever. I have been using Annie's Get Your Gun and 2A Zone for all of mine recently. I have bought many guns from 2A Zone but never bought any from Annie's. Both are very professional, ridiculously quick and very pleasant to talk to.

^ This. If unhappy with a FFL for any reason then I go somewhere else. Plenty of people who want money.

That's what they want (for you to take the ppt somewhere else). If you do that, they win. I will keep using them, but only for ppts. Didn't renew my membership either. If, and only if, they get me in and out in 15 minutes of help, I'll buy something.

Bad business move. The toughest part of retail is getting people in the doors. Often guns are the lowest profit margin item in the store, so who cares if you aren't selling a gun, you have a chance to sell everything else in the store.

They don't have a problem getting people in the doors. I didn't renew my membership because the pistol range was full of a bunch of idiots taking selfies and videos for Facebook of them and their girlfriends shooting, or posing with guns.

I've never had issues with ppt's at Oaktree. Bought and sold at least 2 without issue.
Otherwise I prefer aegis traders in Burbank. Mostly Ppt only shop where you can order direct. Love that place.

I only did one PPT at Oak Tree. Old fart behind the counter was *****ing and moaning about doing a PPT right out the gate.

I said "Yeah, I am sure it really sucks having to do them but it comes with the territory for an FFL these days I guess."

That really ground his gears...he kept whining the whole time. As we where wrapping up I asked him if he thought private buyers and sellers enjoyed doing PPTs or if we where just here because by law we had to be?

                          Crickets...

What an dope...don't like your job? Change it.
Don't want to provide service? Get out of the retail/service industry.
I'm sure his attitude wouldn't have been perceivably better if I was buying a new gun from them...he was just a miserable old fart.

The only times I've had trouble with doing PPTs anywhere is if it's a shop that I'm not a regular customer of. For the shops that I'm not a regular customer of, if they are good with their PPT policy, I become a regular customer and tend to spend enough to make it worth their while. If they are a pain to do a PPT with (take forever, make me feel like a second class citizen, send me away and tell me to come back on the "scheduled PPT day", etc.) I won't buy from them no matter how good their prices are.

Unfortunately, the problem with this system is I have to waste time to find out if a shop is on my no-fly list.

I've done most PPTs at Turners, Riflegear, Ammo Bros, OC Armory, Stoney Creek Arms (Yorba Linda), Bain & Davis (Rosemead). The shop really depends on what works for my deal with the buyer or seller.

That being said, my best experience bar none was at Stoney Creek Arms--very helpful and flexible in their schedule. Pleasant and super nice attitude, yet discrete and very professional. The worst was at Turners in Corona, where the gun clerk was not only reluctant, but a downright a-hole to perform the PPT. Was being bossed around by his manager (black shirt), but not getting help on how to do it. It was hard to tell who was "the bad guy" as they both didn't seem to like each other. Whatever, the PPT got done; unpleasant experience for me and my partner.

When I did pick up the firearm from Turners 10+ days later, the clerk who helped me was way more friendly and enthusiastic about his job. Could just be I got the lemon.
