Hey usmcchet, check your 50 irons again..looks like a 62 on that first target!!! I wish i could shoot irons well anymore with my eyes getting fuzzy. Might be time for glasses....

Twas a windy day at the range today and cold as well. 48 degrees with a 5-10mph crosswind. First shot the 50 yard scoped target but shots were all over the target. Gave up on that and shot the 25yd Iron target, not as much wind effect, with the Kimber 82g, aperture sights and Federal 711B ammo. Started with Wolf MT but did not shoot well at all. Think it may have been the temperature.

Scored 127 on best target. Also shot a 126 and 125. Best target was the first one shot.

Shot the 50yd Scoped, 50yd Iron and 75yd scoped targets today. Great day for shooting, 2-3MPH wind and about 55 degrees. 50yd scoped target score was 185, 50yd Iron target score was 95 (Whoops, miss scored this target, score was 108). Both shot with the Kimber 82g and Wolf MT ammo. Used aperture sights for the Irons and Weaver 6.5-20X for the scoped target. 75yd Scoped target which I thought wouldn't be so difficult turned out to be exactly that. Shot with Savage BTVS and Vortex 8-32X scope. Ammo was 17gr Hornady V-max. Afterwards I tried some CCI 20 gr ammo and turns out the rifle likes that much better.

Nice shooting Izzy, that Kimber's a tack driver! Again, I think I need to get some glasses for shooting irons. Went out to Panoche hills with the family today, and was shooting bright orange clays out to about 100 yards with a Savage model 19/33. I can't seem to pick up anything dark colored though. Too hard to see bullseyes against the front post.

You gotta find someone who has a rifle with front and rear aperture sights and give them a try. Totally different than standard iron sights. Makes old blind guys like me shoot like a youngster. I can't shoot regular iron sights (front post type) worth beans, I have the same problem as you.

Shot the 100yd scoped target today with a Marlin 925M (.22WMR) and a Savage 93r17 (.17HMR). Not the best of conditions with a 8-10mph wind gusting. Pretty happy with the results from both rifles. The Marlin shot a 53 and the Savage shot a 54 (correction: score was 56, didn't count both two holes touching on original score) with two, one hole shots on the outer 10 ring. The Savage group measured 7/8" center to center. The Marlin 4 shot group was the same but the 5 shot group was 1-1/8". Wind was blowing shots to the right and try as I might I couldn't hold off enough to the left to get into the bullseye consistently.

This looks like a lot of fun. Up north here in the Central Valley (Manteca), we've been doing a lot of informal shooting at the indoor ranger at my club over the last several months (6pm). Link here. Its 50 ft though so we've been using different targets (mostly A-17). If you've got a recommendation on equivalents, i might find a couple of people to add results to the thread.

Some of us have been working on the Winchester Marksmanship Program for light right, or reduced Appleseed targets (see attached).

Always fun to get out there and a little competition is fun.

Talk the match up to your friends to hopefully get more shooters.

Print all targets at 100%. Colored targets may be printed in grayscale to save on color ink if desired.

At the request of another Calgunner here is a target for 50 feet. Its an Appleseed target but will have a little different shooting requirement for this match.

25 Yard Irons: (Same as last month)

Take 3 shots at each target for a total of 12 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.

25 and 50 Yard Scoped
This is a new target for scoped shooting @ 25 yds and the same target for 50 yd scoped. The twist is that for 25yds the maximum scope magnification that can be used is 9X and the maximum scope magnification for 50 yds is 16X. If you use a variable scope ensure that you set the magnification appropriately for each target and annotate the target accordingly.

Take 1 shot at each bullseye for a total of 10 shots. There are two sighter bullseyes Center ring is 10, then 9, 8, 7, 6.

For each target indicate your total score and if not already indicated on the target note the distance shot and what type of sights. Ex: Score =xxx, Iron Sights (or Scope) No fair shooting iron sight targets with a scope.

Rules:
This is an online match. Print off the targets, shoot where and when you want. Come back and post your targets for those in your face bragging rights!! I do encourage meeting up with other match shooters. Any rimfire firearm is eligible. Shooting from a benchrest, prone, sitting, standing, hood of your car, leaning against a tree is acceptable. Using a rest in which the rifle can be locked down is verboten.

Bonus Points
Here is how it will work. This is only on targets that have multiple shots on one target. We shoot the targets as normal and add up the scores like normal.

Thanks but I am a day early, forgot about Leap Year. Happens to us old retired guys. I'll edit if more targets show up today. Your iron sight shooting is hard to beat.
