My first AR build. I didn't have a lot to spend so I bought it a piece at a time as I could afford to and even got a few used parts here on this site. I just finished the paint job today and was "baking" it in the sun.

Rise of the Ratt, completed build...

Here is "The Ratt" all ugly/cute, closer to the AR's seen used by "Mercenaries" in "Blood Diamond" than the original retro CAR-15 used in VietNam I had originally set out to build. Note I added a tac-latch similar to the Hollywood version. My Aimpoint is obsolete and a different model, but still serviceable. The cheek riser needs to be replaced, not working correctly. 10 round/30 look Mag from Member "Tunis" (Thanx Bro'). Still needs to be test fired, but real life precludes that anytime soon. Shown dressed with cam & popo styles...

I thought so, but I hadn't seen them in black yet. Every time I log into my dealer account they were only offered in brown. Navy calls it dark earth, but its a completely different color than the rest of the worlds dark earth, and they rest of the world's version came first. Currently they are completely sold out. So you snagged yours just in time.

How do you like it? Any pros or cons you've noticed about it? I've been considering the same rail.

How is the eye relief on that?

3.5" is what it calls for. I had it out later that night at my local indoor range. Didn't bother zeroing in (only 35yds), but eye relief was fine. This is the first REAL scope I've ever used or purchased, so it did take a little getting used to.

From what I understand, the black RIS II has so far been a limited run. Mine was manufactured in 08. I can't really say any cons about it, but it has so far been my favorite rail system. It's a 2 piece design like the URX to allow use of the M203 and while that does not apply to me, I like the fact that I can remove the bottom section fairly easily to access the barrel for cleaning/oiling when I use the rifle in wet conditions. It's cross section is also very similar to the Knight's rails with the bottom rail tucked in slightly, which I prefer to the oval cross section of the Lite series rail. Another plus to me is, unlike the URX, it doesn't need a $250 barrel wrench to install.

What scope is that on your AR in the middle & how do you like it?

Thanks. The scope is a nightforce NXS 1-4x. It's one of the most versatile scopes I've used and it's built like a tank. I like the ability to set it at 1x for shooting on the move and 4x whenever more magnification would help. I prefer this setup over an aimpoint / eotech with a magnifier personally.
