Mark, if I could email pics to MYSELF, I will have posted them. This has been an issue for two weeks now... and perhaps tomorrow I can try again.

Too, the 1894SBL that Randall worked on for me shoots like a dream now, too. I met up w/ SplitHoof at a range up in Acton. We chrono'd some red/black Fed Am Eagle and that is some very consistent ammo (.44 Remington Magnum 240 gr sjhp).

      Yeehaw! Pics later.

The 39A is a great rifle, a solid forged steel lever action. I love it when I remove it from the safe, it has heft to it, solid lumber and steel.

What was done to your 39A to "overhaul" it? Repair, clean up the action?

Still having photo transfer issues! New Windows 10 computer isn't successfully downloading my iPhone's photos through a USB connection (but I now have another thing to try! today) and the phone won't transmit images to either of two email addresses... and yet photos still send successfully via text message. I have no answers. BOBGBA called the other day in an attempt to help out, too. Thanks Bob!

I am consoled by having gone shooting yesterday, and having such a great time plinking steel. Thanks for sharing a great afternoon, Split. Thanks for clocking those loads, too. Really happy with the results of being patient with these two Marlin, tackling the small issues and for having Randall/ar15barrels to handle the larger issues.

Bergmen, the rifle had old grease in the action and some of it had dried where it leaked to the exterior of the receiver. It looked bad but I had hoped it would clean up nicely which it did.

It had two Weaver scope mount pads screwed into the top of the barrel back towards the receiver and the rifle was missing it's iron sights. The front sight screw bores had screws rusted stuck and it was only Randall's skill and expertise that conquered that small problem. The rear sight dovetail had been filled with a dovetail blank by the original owner. Randall provided screws to fill the leftover empty scope mount screw bores.

Rather than seek replacement original irons, I wanted the excellent XS Sights Systems' ghost ring irons which Marlin started using on their SBL/CSBL/CST 1894s. $110 and worth every penny. I think I'll wind up with this setup on all six of my Marlin levers, eventually.

I then set about cleaning most of the old grease out of the action, disassembling some of it to do so then using my gun oil blend to lubricate the newly-cleaned mechanism.

I cleaned and oiled the blued receiver and barrel then cleaned and treated the walnut furniture with Henry's Feed & Wax, a mixture of orange oil, beeswax, carnuba and just enough old-school solvents to cure the finish. The result is a beautiful old rifle that shoots lights out.

Now if only I could get some images posted!

LOL! That could have been my safe! I believe they would do that in order to get another sale....after all, they already had my money.

Mine is way over built. Have you ever taken the inside panel off the door?
No, I have never taken off the inside panel. Would it upset me to do so? :-)

Chris, glad you were able get the 39A out to shoot. They are wonderful! My old 39A could use a little TLC, but, it shoots sooo good, I ain't touching it. Now, if Mark can locate one........ Think there are a few on here looking for him as well.

Aye, it is fast becoming an all-time favorite shooter. Glad I have a decent stash of .22!

These .44 Magnum 240 gr sjhp Federal Am Eagle were very consistent. Speeds are in the region of 1650 - 1690 fps. Not bad! from 16.5" of barrel. Carbine is the Marlin 1894SBL made in 2018.

I ran some of those Federal Am Eagle .357/158gr JSP thru my Henry and they were very consistent over a chronograph: 1690-1710+fps. Very accurate factory stuff. Now, it;s pretty much all handloads with coated rnfp 180's.

That's where the over built part stopped. I've never welded, never. I could have assembled the works/movement better. It looks like something made in a 7th grade shop class and the kid got a "C" on his project just for trying.

I've never had a single problem with mine in 25 years. I just don't remove that cover anymore...

No doubt that I want a 39, that's been an itch for 3-4 years but my holy grail 22 lever gun is the 94/22. I scratched that itch 4 years ago.

My lord!! If it says Marlin on the barrel and is a lever action in 357, its selling at a high price on GB, JM or not.

I think I'll spray paint the wood on my 94c black and ask $1700.00 for it To be honest, I don't think I would sell it for that much money, and its 2018 built. It's too nice to sell.

It's crazy how those black lever guns are selling ....

Alas all my levers are in 30-30 or 22.

I did once have a single shot lever in 357 mag. CHP commerative.

I would imagine there are perhaps more than several of us MLC members here that also smoke various cheeses. My tools beside the selected cheeses are a Weber kettle, an A-MAZE-N smoke tube, favorite fruit wood pellets (NO briquettes) kept at below 90 degrees (NO fire) for a couple of hours. Photo shows the lid off for the smoke effect, lid stays on for the complete duration.
The hard part is letting the cheeses and smoke age together in the fridge for at least two weeks before serving.
                                Way beyond good stuff!
