I don't think anyone else here is attending, but I'll be driving down from Idaho and will be arriving sometime Friday the 24th. The matches run Saturday through Monday, so I will be at the range all day competing on 5/25-5/27.

    Range schedule:
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

      Happy Friday lever fans!

sure wish I had time to get away to an outdoor area to crank some ammo out of some rifles

as a small consolation, I picked this beauty up this morning and planning to treat the kids to some vintage wheel gun fun this weekend

I started out with nothing - and I still have most of it

Congratulations, that looks like an excellent example of a Combat Masterpiece! Probably my favorite DA revolver.

Me and wife were out in Borrego desert off the train tracks today. I ran the Henry Big Boy steel 357 side gate. Maybe two other Jeeps out there, pretty much empty.

Good results at 100 yards, no wind there but other areas were blowing hard.

Good groups were around 2~3 inches. Someone left a new, unshot hanging target with the green self healing plastic.

Got to break that in, a hit will swing it. Tiny holes after as that plastic is self healing. Yes, I took it home.

77 degrees and a nice high cloud cover kept the heat off. It will be blowing hard tomorrow.

Thanks, Jimi! for a great report.

Jimi Jah's most recent post is a textbook example (minus any posted photograyphs) of how we as MLC members spread far and wide may convene here in this thread! and on a greater level. I think Jimi needs to be added to the MLC membership roll... don'tcha think? Who's with me?

I'm itchin' to get back out there to my favorite high desert spots but have family matters to attend to.

I'll be checking in from time to time as to when I might be able to head out for some plinkin'.

Meanwhile, keep your firearms ready and your powder dry.

P&R, deep bluing, sights, a great shooter.
              Did it include the screwdriver?

                      thanks y'all!

unfortunately no tools with this one but I have a couple of vintage kits somewhere around here that would look right at home in that box

Years/decades ago I stopped in a card shop on State St in Santa Barbara. I'm still laughing!

First time I've been able to get on here in a while.

                              Spent some time blasting yesterday.

1894c that I'd never shot before and recently figured out and fixed the REALLY simple jam problem I'd been having (screw in front of the lever had backed out about a turn and a half) Was flawless and shot every load I tried in it really well.

1894 Cowby 20" in 45 Colt, I recently put some Skinners on. It needs some adjustment as I have it WAY too high with my hunting rounds, but I was able to keep the head down of a torso sized target at 200 yards once I figured out the Kentucky dope. Golfish donated these sights to this project, so THANK YOU to him! I love this little carbine and it's even better with these on it.

1971 444 Marlin, tested some lower level Red Dot loads. "The Load" works great in it with 240 grain lead bullets. Also tried a few 3031 loads. All worked well enough I'm going to set up and load a hundred or so of each for plinking times.

1887 12g replica. I haven't had it out in a while and dang if it isn't fun to shoot about 4 magazines through before it hurts! I need to put a cushioned butt pad and lever wrap on it.

Also blasted some heavy 45 Colt out of the stainless Blackhawk and some 30 carbine out of the long barrel blued Blackhawk and a bunch of 22lr out of the silly fun 16" Heritage 1873 Buntline-ish comically fun to shoot wheelgun. Also found that my 9mm carry load does NOT cycle in my Ruger PCC which is disappointing. The hollow point lip hangs up about 3 times per magazine. Ball and SWC's shoot great out of it though.

The weather is dang near perfect up here north of the ice wall, crisp 28 or so in the morning and up in the 60's mid to late afternoon. Shorts and sandals time!

The weather is damn near perfect here in Idaho, too.

I had the local trailer builder/fabricator weld me up some silhouette swingers, and took them to the range yesterday for a test run. They were perfect for practice, and I sent several hundred rounds downrange until I got tired of standing.

On the bench were three rifles:

                                Marlin CBC in 38spl
                                Marlin 39A Golden
                                Winchester 94/22

The Marlin Cowboy is the one I had D/T for a receiver mount a while back, and had not yet worked out the zeroes. I think it's ready now, and will probably use it in the next match to see if I can hit anything with it.

The other two have long since had the zeroes doped out, but I wanted to practice and register them on target to be sure, as spring has sprung and state matches are not far off. The turkeys are a bitch to get consistent hits on.

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!
