Chris, take care of the priorities my friend. BTW, I have two rifles coming back to me, not levers, but, think you guys will really like 'em. About two weeks. I'll get pictures when here. Ones a 30-06, other is a 7x57.

Heck, if a guy was feeling froggy I could start the sewing and even have them do a lot of that part. We could get em done in a day. Be a fun day.
A very generous offer. If I didn't live in Idaho, I'd be "in" for sure!

BTW - the CA State Lever Rifle Silhouette Championships will be held at Angeles Crest Shooting Range this year, over the Labor Day weekend. If you're in the area, stop by and say "hi".

Horse, that is some nice leatherwork there.
I remember very well many years ago when a neighboring ranch hand had his rifle and scabbard beat up badly when he got stuck on a very steep hillside, and basically plowed through the trail to keep from going over the side. His scabbard was mounted low-right, and took the brunt of the rocks and brush. He had been warned to dismount prior and lead his horse, but he elected not to do that. Being that I never much used the saddle horn for rope work, I did not have that issue, and preferred to keep my scabbard higher up and close. When we needed to move old RR ties, my squaw used a cart pulling harness and rope for that. Took more time to tack up, but that was no issue.
This may seem sacrilege to a leathersmith, but I think my next scabbard will be made of Kydex if I elect to get one.

Ah my friend. The problem with kydex, while practical is....it has no soul!

I mentioned picking up a 1950 Marlin 336 that was in pretty well-used condition. There are some dents and dings in the wood, the finish is pretty much a grey patina with edge wear, the rear sight was removed, the dovetaill filled in, and a folding rear sight installed close to the receiver. It has a gold bead front sight. The worst is that it has a Browning semiauto butt plate on it...

It is a waffle top. I had planned to refinish the wood and replace the butt plate, but I may leave the wood alone - I kinda like the way it looks. I will have to put a receiver sight on it - it is not a collectible so I may eventually have it drilled and tapped for a scope. I believe it is already drilled and tapped for a side mount peep sight.

                  Very nice, Rick...

                  That's a 5-Star Usergrade Firearm right there.

No, I haven't shot it yet. I hope to get to the AVGC sometime in the middle of this week. You guys are always welcome to join me. Usually no one around during the week. I don't head out to the wild Mojave by myself anymore...the drawback to the range is that they no longer let you shoot handguns at the rifle range and it is a pain to pack up and move between ranges. I ordered some 130 gr FPs I want to load up for a fun plinking load. It is pre-Microgroove.

I took the bolt out and cleaned the bore, then wiped the bolt and lever clean. The bore looks very good.

Any of you lever lovers ever shot or even seen the Mossberg 464 lever rifle?
Was reading about them on another site, but, I don't know much about 'em.
                      Anything?

I haven't seen one yet, but I did see several of Mossberg's previous lever action at the Roy Rogers Museum when it was in Apple Valley. I think he had a promo deal with them. There were also several Mossberg shotguns there. He was quite a trap and skeet shooter.

Roy Rogers had his own shooting range in Chatsworth.

greetings from your local thread derailer

thought y'all might be interested in this revolver tho

just minding my own business monitoring my gunbroker watch list, this one's getting mighty close to closing at $425

that can't be right, 1971 S&W Combat Masterpiece in great condition, all original with box and papers?!

threw one bid down and got it for $430

DROS'd it today, my FFL was stocked, it's really sharp

and for those not familiar with the model 15, it's basically a model 10 with adjustable sights

stand by for range report in a couple of weeks

                            Smith & Wesson S&W 4" 1971 Combat Masterpiece 15-3 Pinned Box .38 C&R

I started out with nothing - and I still have most of it
