The Clampers are good bunch. My chapter is in Bishop and we dedicate plaques in the Owen's Valley. This year's plaque will be dedicated to the Mt. Witney Pack Station.
I live in Apple Valley and will usually get out early and shoot until it gets too hot. If it going to get hot early, I can always just hit the Apple Valley range at sunrise and head home when it gets uncomfortable.

Matt, ran into the Clampers in Bridgeport some years ago in Green Creek. Great bunch of fellas. Maybe I'll try and see you guys at Jake's. What day, if you will?

If any of you need an excuse to get away from the house this weekend, Oak Tree Gun Club is having their "Summer Blast" Saturday and Sunday.

I'll be there both days in the RMEF (Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation) booth trying to raise money for conservation.

All the major gun manufacturers will be there.

Hopefully, the fact that I'll be there won't deter too many folks from showing up.

I worked that into the leather liberally and let it sit for a full day before buffing it out. It made the leather much more pliable, and gave it that rich honey-brown color.

The sad thing was that the vendor had the exact holster in black, sans belt, for $10. I bought that as well, but I really wish he had the belt for it - it would have made a nice pairing!

                  Black holster:

Glad that conditioner worked out for ya. Nice rig.

Been busy cowboying and working so haven't' been around much. Finished up our Spring Works a few weeks ago:

Be hitting the saddle again here shortly as we have to gather again next week. Time to bring in our butcher steer and we've got quite a few calves to take to the sale. Due to all the weather this year we've had our own lil super blooms and thats been kinda cool:

Haven't done much with levers lately but have switched to my snakegun as its that time of year. Killed one rattler in the driveway the other day:

Mitchy our colt is doing well. He's really getting big. Measured him the other day and he's 13.3 hands at fourteen months. Thats pretty tall. This was last weekend:

Breeding our mare to his sire Call Me Mitch was a stroke of good luck. Call Me Mitch and his rider Phillip Ralls just won The Worlds Greatest Horseman contest in Ft Worth. Mitchy got to watch his dad for one of the events in the finals:

Not only did Call Me Mitch win, he won huge! He set a new scoring record for the event and secured a place in the history books as he is the highest money earning horse of all time in NRCHA (National Reined Cowhorse Association) history! We called Phillip Ralls his rider and trainer the other day and he has agreed to start Mitchy next winter when its time. He'll have him for about four months and we'll see if there's any potential there. Well thats about it from this rancho.

For those that are interested 78 horses started the Worlds Greatest Horseman contest. Top 15 come back for the finals. Four events (herdwork, steer stopping, reining and fencework) are all judged for each horse and the cumulative high score wins. Here's a lil 4 minute and change video of Call Me Mitch's runs at the finals. This is pretty much the pinnacle of a working cowhorse.

Absolutely amazing. Is there any greater achievement in horse and horsemanship?

Taylor Sheridan has admitted he only works as hard as he does to pay for his horse habit. There has been featured in the Yellowstone tv drama several of these caliber horses and riders. We may see more of this when the Four Sixes series airs.

To see Phillip Ralls' reaction to Call Me Mitch's performance after each stage and how proud he is of Mitch, to see his reaction to their scores in this event and his ultimate win was almost overwhelming for this viewer. All the work, all the effort, all of the training, a life spent horseback... cheeeziss. What a great deal for the two of them. And you have Mitch's progeny. I am very happy for you and Nichole, Dave! Thanks too for your great photos as always. The ranch looks great.

Yeah that really gets ya to see how close he is to that horse. We were sure he wouldn't have time for us since we're not any big name or anything but quite the opposite. He said he'd love to start him and said Mitchy The Kid was a great name (Mitchy's registered name). Even the announcer he doesn't do What is the NAME of this horse on anybody else. Thanks.

Scheese, still getting right from our trip overseas and I'm leaving for Idaho this Fri. Day or two of fishing on Henry's Lake, then, loafing around S/E Idaho.
                          Probably a trip to Cody.

I ran across this delicious bit 0' info about what Bill Wilson (- Combat) thinks of the Colt Python whirlinpopper.

This is for golfish and any other Python owner/lover. Vid clip is maybe 50 secs...

I often hear various opinions on the DA feel of the Python. (Most do not question its SA trigger pull....) Long ago, my Uncle Bill told me that the Python was designed as a target gun. The Python DA trigger pull does have a noticeable "stack" or "staging" spot you can feel just before the trigger breaks. Uncle Bill said that was intentional as it allowed a target shooter to finalize his sight picture before dropping the hammer. This may be a defect for a duty or service gun.
I have heard both sides of a tapered bore in the Python - Massad Ayoob wrote that "Colt laboriously tapered the bore of the Python toward the muzzle by perhaps a thousandth of an inch. This difficult task results in a bullet pathway that forces the slug more firmly into the riifling." (American Handgunner, Sept/Oct 1992) That seems a pretty tight tolerance and I have no technical knowledge about such things. I did see where someone had a Colt New Service bore measured and the breech end of the barrel was .455 and .454 at the muzzle. Colt also used a different rate of twist ( 1 in 14" versus 1 in 18') in their Python barrels. In any case, the Python barrels are acknowledged as being very accurate. My 1970s Python is certainly smooth and accurate.

Apples: The gun in that clip is one of his old Pythons. Here is the whole video. The guns on the table are all old Pythons. Wilson comments on the new ones at 11:20.

Cliffs Notes: Wilson had one and got rid of it. He hates the rear sight - - says it won’t hold zero.

Of course, Wilson now sells sights for the gun.
