Mojave Lever Crew - Roll Call!

Well we talked back then about putting up a game cam and we did.

So bout the end of June we get a notification from the game cam that we need to go and change the batteries. For a variety of reason and partially cause we plain forgot it was a couple weeks and we were out doing our summer cattle works and we changed the batteries. Well the camera had still been taking pics, just not texting them to us. We changed the batteries and got a butt load of pics texted to us.

Bout a week later again. It's 10 or so at night. We'd just laid down and we're watching Ancient Aliens and Nichole's phone beeped with new pictures from the game cam. Sure as heck he's out there and right now! We have about a two minute delay from the cam taking the pics to getting them on the phone. Call the PD we jump up, get dressed and grab pistols and head out. We were meeting the PD at the west gate by the hospital. Took us twelve minutes to get there and the PD with 3 units showed up bout 30 seconds later. Well we'd got a couple more pics of him coming down out of the canyon but for some reason these were delayed more and we though we had a hot trail but didn't, he'd got away.

Bout two weeks later the investigating officer calls and says we got him!

I'm glad the game camera idea worked out.

Well then Smoke, on the left, in the last pic, stuck the spout in Nichole's mouth and turned on the beer till Nichole couldn't drink anymore. Which wasn't much cause she doesn't really drink beer, she's more of a tequila girl but hence the name a keg stand. No it wasn't her birthday. I mean that was big doings with that private concert and all, no, this was bigger. Smoke got hitched. The ceremony was at the ranch and the reception was at the house:

Now there was gonna be bout an hour and a half of formal pics with the bridal party at the ranch. Folks drifted on over to the house. To keep em occupied till we got there we had a couple of things planned:

One was the Tipsy Wagon. These ladies had driven their little horse trailer bar over from Lompoc for the event:



And while dinner was gonna be served it wasn't gonna be till the bride and groom got there of course, so my sister in law stepped up. She is a charcuterie
goddess. This table is 4'x8' and she filled every square inch of it with.....well...charcuterie:





It took her three days with two assistants, of slicing and dicing to create this masterpiece but she got er done. And, it was a hit. by the time I got there it was bout done, think I got an olive or something.

Then if folks had a sweet tooth, Mary Kay, Nichole's best friend took care of that. A cookie baker and decorator of uncommon ability it took her six days to decorate all these cookies and one day to bake em:





Well, bout that time the bridal party got there. Speaking of party I think the grooms sister was ready to party:



I tease Ashley about being a pin up girl on my beer fridge in the shop. Small town stuff but Ashley and my son Logan were on the same Tball team when they were six. Big Dave, her dad, was the coach and I was the assistant coach. Ashley was the only girl but we must of been great coaches cause she went on to a full ride scholarship at a Div 1 school, in softball. She's a deputy down south these days. I have the team pic on my fridge which is why I tease her bout being a pin up girl. She's all the way to the right kneeling and Logan is next to her, that was 25 years ago:

Logan and his wife Katie. They' d flown in from Salt Lake. It was cheaper to drive from the ranch they are on in n/e Nevada to Salt Lake and fly down then it was to drive due to the price of diesel.



Now Katie is used to keeping Logan lined out so keeping these two groomsmen lined out wasn't even a job for her. They were yes ma'am ing her pretty darn quick.



So bout two weeks prior to the wedding I'm out in the shop and Nichole comes in and says we have to make a shotski. Ok, whats a shotski? Well its a ski the couple takes a shot out of. So she showed me some pics on her phone and we trotted on down to the Depot and found a piece of birch. Came back and I shaped one end like a ski front and then drilled a couple holes. Showed Nichole how to sand er up and she did a great job. Sent er up north to a buddy thats got a laser and he did the laserring and sent er back to us. Threw a couple of coats of danish oil on er and called er good. The Carters established 2022 with their brand:

Back to the shooting end of things, been too damn hot to hit the Mojave and I don't really care for indoor ranges[altho they are A/C'ed], I CANNOT wait to get back out to our beloved desert. Come on Fall!!!!

I'm gonna have to hit the indoor range next week. Got to shoot the new revolver, the Glock 20 has maybe 10 rounds through it (remember we had problems with it the first time we took it out) I fixed that problem. Plus I need to shoot the Winchester 92. I haven't shot it since I had all that work done to it.

I'll give ya a call on Sunday.

Spyder's post reminded me that I have the new Mini 14 and Browning SA-22 that are unfired. Maybe we can go out to the Mojave early one morning and get out of there before noon. I need to rebuild my AR500 targets too...this is starting to sound like too much work, nevermind

It is hot here in the afternoon (100 or so after noon most days recently), so my range time is typically in the mornings. Not many people at our club during those hours so I'm good to go. I will never go to an indoor range again, too damn noisy, can't trust the shooters next to me and the air is filled with smoke that I do not want to breathe.

I'll be doing some blasting here this weekend, even though it's supposed to be 115 or so.

i should have some 25-35 ammo handy to test out the 125 or so year new Winchester, and the .255 Dean dies should be here tomorrow so I'm hoping to try out the 125 or so new Marlin as well. And...have to sight in the deer rifles and tinker with the old Buntline, for fun.

The 10 day forecast shows 88 next weekend, 89 on Monday the 12th. It is 100 right now at noon in Apple Valley.

I will head to the AVGC range early in the AM next week sometime. I get there before sunrise and get all set up. I want to shoot my 1917 Colt more with some autorim handloads.

I recall many days that were well over 100, and a few 110+ going through Caliente on the way up to the ranch.
There is a spot down by the post office at the RR tracks that always seems hot.
Caliente Creek wasn’t much cooler.

It is right in the name if you spell correctly and speak spanish...

105 in Poway Yesterday. !02 today. Plus its humid. Tried to sit out back on the patio after dinner last night. Mosquitos were thick as thieves. I lasted 10 minutes. Have eight bites. UGH!
