You have the wet HF tumbler? I use SS pins and chips along with some Franklin Arsenal brass cleaner. They come out better then new you can also use a little Dawn and citric acid..

Yes and I've used the method you described for brass. I guess I can go get some dry media and try and tumble live ammo with it.

That's terrific! I'm in the middle of some load experiments with my two 454 SA revolvers (FA 83 and Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley - in my Avatar).

I made the mistake of under loading with 296 (30 grains instead of the 35 grain load I was shooting before). It says right in the instructions NOT to do this but I put a heavy factory crimp (from a .45 Colt factory crimp die) thinking that it would retain the bullet for complete powder combustion.

But I got two squib loads that were a pain to clear. That is enough of that, I need to pull down about 60 rounds loaded that way.

I don't need max power since I don't hunt anymore so I am looking at a peppy load that is just above my favorite .45 Colt load of 25 grains of 296 under a 250 grain JHP. I'll start experimenting with the listed W231 loads but I also have some 4227 that I might try as well. I won't be adding any new powders to my inventory (cost, availablility and load uncertainty).

This is disappointing since I was getting outstanding accuracy with the Ruger with the 30 grain 296 loads (under a 240 grain XTP MAG bullet).

Oh well, that is the fun of making my own ammo. I got work to do...

The FA revolvers are in a class by themselves, absolute perfection in my book. One thing I have not done is use small rifle magnum primers, I have been using Winchester small rifle primers. The magnum primers are recommended for slow burning powders and heavy bullets (which I will not be using anymore). These may possibly have contributed to the two squib loads mentioned.

My preference (in most of my handgun loads) is to stay with lighter bullets so I expect to stay with 240/250 grain JHP as I move over to W231 (standard small rifle primers should work fine here I believe).
