Speaking of hats, I really wanted to get one like Kurt Russell wears in the thing. And then I saw the price!

I think the discussion of "hats" in this case pertains to good quality, natural-felt western/cowboy hats. Not necessarily ball caps like some of like to wear wh3never.

Good beaver can certainly be expensive!

And if trimmed properly and in proportion, worth every penny.

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

I had a hat come off the weekend before last at speed in a boat.
We had to circle around and net it and then it was too wet to wear all day.

My friend Kevin working on the felt hat he built me some years back. I wear it often and it gotten pretty darn dusty and there was Kevin at this show at Rancho El Tejon:

Some of his wares he was selling:

                          Kevin talking with the wife:

Kevin's hats are spendy (I traded a set of steak knives for the one he made the wife and three bowies for mine), however I can simply say it is the finest hat I've ever had on my head for sure.

Onto etiquette. I know what Apples is saying about always crown down on a flat surface. However there are exceptions. One open crown hats don't work good that way. This is the hat Kevin made the wife, loosely based on the hat that the girl wears in the new True Grit. Nichole is on the left with her KJ hat, myself and the daughter in law and my son. Few years back when it actually rained around here. Where we're standing there with some of The Wolf Pack is like a dirt parking lot now.

So her open crown hat certainly isn't gonna rest well upside down as opposed to Tyler's:

Anyhoo I do believe section 5, paragraph 4 of the Cowboy Handbook also gives an exemption for a photo op such as Ramclaps, if I remember correctly. I'll have to dust er off and check. Number one rule of course is you take your hat off when meeting a lady. If I didn't do that growing up my dad would of knocked my hat to the ground, with my head would still in it! He wasn't as stern as my grandfather. Grandpa would of just roped ya and drug ya a bit so ya remember.

Your friend Kevin makes some mighty fine looking hats.

I was in Raton, New Mexico last year for the lever gun silhouette nationals, and wandered into a local store to have a look-see. I was amazed at what the top-tier "factory" hats were going for, so I think I don't really want to know what a custom one fetches.

I was just giving Ramclap some friendly ribbing, and hope it was taken as such. If not, my apologies.

Also -I was in a restaurant when to young "teen-ish" cowpokes ambled in. Took their hats off as they did so - civility lives!
