As far as the hype.. I think most people are mistaking the 'artificial' demand due to California ending the ability to SSE pistols.. We're the only state that's really gobbling them up because after Jan 1st, it's going to be very, very difficult to get one otherwise..

I handled both and they both seem to be quality firearms.. beyond that I find all the other stuff really subjective.. they're budget polymer production guns that are striker fired.. I'm not sure what people are expecting, but I hope it's not the Holy Grail..

I have both guns and favor the PPQ because I must have a lemon VP9 - the trigger is awful. Gritty, crunchy, and an audible and tactile stopping poiint half way through the pull. So do I need to send it back to HK to get it fixed? I have fired 300+ rounds so I think any improvement would have surfaced by now.

Take the slide off and do some trigger pulls, if it's noticeably loud clicking and feels like it's catching, that's not normal. Call HK USA customer service.

I think it's largely the "Calguns Effect". Many of my friends that are non-subscribers didn't even know what SSE was.

We talk about the next "it" gun and suddenly they disappear from inventory due to demand here in CA. The VP9 is clearly one. Whether or not the PPQ rode on it's coattails, I'll leave each of you decide. Nonetheless, it's been selling well too.

I think either the Lionheart, or Sphinx was next in line but we're too close to the end to get worked up about them.

Me, I'm going back to wheel guns next year.

Kevin - my VP9 has sat in my safe since I picked it up a month ago (shows you how excited I am to shoot that thing haha). I just picked up my Walther PPS from OC Armory yesterday... finally got the green light from the wife to goto the range Sunday. So I'm going to be comparing the PPQ, VP9, and Sphinx back to back, then I'm going to shoot the PPS enough to see if it's good enough to be added to my ccw. Can't wait. Hoping the VP9 disappoints so I won't be tempted to add it to my ccw, as the Sphinx is currently the front runner for my 3rd ccw spot! haha

Let me know how that goes. The PPQ is one of my favorite guns to shoot right now. The gun just feels right for me.

I shot my VP9 and my Sphinx, both for the first time, during my last range trip. I ended up putting about 50 rounds through the VP9 and 470 through the Sphinx, if that's any indication of which one I prefer. :P

After first feeling a dry firing the VP9 I thought it was extremely over praised...
I had a PPQ at the time. I've been saying it forever PPQ trigger >>>>>> VP9 trigger. The VP9 trigger is barely better than a stock gen 4 glock trigger. At least the Glock trigger is smooth. The VP9 had 3 different "stages" to it. I figured maybe it was because I wasn't actually shooting the VP9. So my friend picks one up...

We head out to the range. Ergonomics were great while shooting... the trigger left much to be desired after hearing people think it was possibly better than the PPQ trigger. To think the VP9 trigger is super amazing or remotely close to as good as a PPQ trigger, you HAVE to be smoking crack. The trigger was definitely the same kind of "meh" you think of with any other stock trigger (besides PPQ trigger). It was easy to work with... but I also think a stock glock/M&P/XD trigger is easy to work with.

People bought into the hype big time. Good ergonomics, good recoil control, meh trigger. Sums up quite a few stock guns that are excellent firearms... but one is not particularly better than the rest.

Of course, all the HK groupies are going to be hating on me now and they won't understand logical reasoning... oh well.

there's a reason my PPQ is my ccw/edc gun...carry it every day AND I bought a 2nd one as back up, that's sitting at OC Armory waiting to be DROS'd in Nov.

there's a reason the VP9 has sat in my safe for 1+ month since I brought it home. I highly doubt it'll blow me away after I shoot it.

you're never "stuck." wait till after the new year when SSE's go away, I'm sure you can easily sell it for what you paid for & possibly more. I'm sure there will be quite a few flippers out there on these VP9's.
