CZ 2075 RAMI 9mm, chambered and hammer lowered to DA mode

I don't have kids so my opinion is pretty worthless, but if I thought my kids had a chance of getting ahold of my pistol, I don't see how having it loaded in anyway whatsoever would make me feel any safer. Either they are safe with a loaded gun or they aren't....I would try and find a way to keep the guns locked up when you're away.

I keep a Glock 21 in a wall safe with a keypad in my bedroom. Inside the safe the pistola is unloaded and the magazine sits next to it.

So there you are, after all the arming, practice, decision to keep a pistol handy, then there you are with a jam as your bedroom door flies open.
First, I actually shoot my Glock a lot, and I am 100% confident I will not have any problems loading it should ever need to.

Second, if I don't have the couple of seconds it takes to get to and load my pistola, the situation is so bad my little Glock won't make a difference.

I am 1000 times more concerned about my kids and their friends safety that I am concerned about an intruder.

You don't have to live in a "seedy" neighborhood. The truth of the matter is there is NO SAFE PLACE IN AMERICA ANYMORE! People need to get that silly notion out of their heads, "Oh, I live in a safe neighborhood". Nonsense!! Keep a gun handy at ALL TIMES. When I get up in the middle of the night to go pee my 45 Colt ACP goes with me. You CANNOT logically make an assumption that no criminal is in your dwelling until you check. When you do, take your gun with you.

not a handgun.....i keep a 12 gauge with folding stock with 5 shells on the stock and 4 in the side saddle, and another box next to it to load the tube...simple combo lock that is only a couple digits off.......i figure 15 rounds will get me to my safe across the room with all the big boys in it.....half the rounds are 00 buck and half are low recoil slugs....i figure that should be good for HD !

            magazine in, empty chamber.

            1) if I have a second to reach for it, i figure i have half a second to rack the slide -- with the comfort of knowing that an AD/ND is even further eliminated in addition to rule #4 as it moves from the safe to bedside everyday. I reach for the weapon more for transport than in defense so this seems like a good compromise.

            2) also the mind does not always function properly when sleeping, and sleeping next to a hot pipe COULD be a liability IMO that can easily be remedied by taking an extra step and keeping the mag in on an empty chamber. I would hate to wake up from a bad dream and have shot myself in the foot, or worse.

EDIT: One last note, someone commented on the possibility of a malfunction when racking the slide if SHTF -- first round in the magazine is ball, next 7 are JHP and the Kimber Warrior is a nasty pig that eats everything. But excellent point.

I have a .357Mag Snubby, crimson trace laser grips, and loaded with 145g winchester silvertips as my bedside gun. She is ALWAYS loaded with a speed loader next to it.

A glock 17,clip in, is also there for the girlfriend..... she is intimidated by the .357.

If all hell breaks loose I also have a remmington 870 tactical police magnum with AR15 stock loaded with 7shells of 00 buck.

                  G-19 with laser/flashlight.

(6)pre-ban high cap 33 round magazines. Loaded with Glaser rounds. I care and enjoy my neighbors

TRP Operator 1911. Full Dust Cover and Rail. Night Sighs and (6) D-47 wilson loaded magazines since this $1600 pistol does not work with the factory magazines for me or anyone I know that owns one.

M1 Super 90 8+1 00 buck shot. Semi auto. Flashlight and green laser preasure switch. Remember neighbors.

Wheel gun for the lady. Hammerless S&W 625PD with laser grips and Glaser rounds.

Few notes one thing about those bio-vaults they are known for the right doors getting stuck. I send 4 back to the factory and went a diffrent route.

On your magazines you really need to rebuild them every 12 months when fulley stacked. Those springs get killed from sitting loaded and may make your pistol jam if you need to use your pistol.

Wheels guns are the best nightstand guns. If you dont want to rebuilt your magazines or check your weapon a lot.

I always heard it was ok to leave glock magazines stacked. I have 5 loaded right now

In many self-defense situations you only have the opportunity to fire off one round..... thats enough for me to carry only HP in any of my HD guns. I also dont want to over penatrate and kill an innocent bystander.... that could become an EXPENSIVE lawsuit.

                          What and where is it??
                          Under my mattress....an S&W MP-40. Magazine in....not chambered.

                          Reasons??

Because I'm safer with it there than without it.
Because the cops aren't there to protect me.
Because I believe lethal force is best stopped with lethal force.
Because the 2nd Amend. protects my right to do so.
Because I have more than myself to protect.
Because I have no control over people other than myself.
Because I have no ability to predict the future.

                          Am I LEO or Military???

No....which is why its even more important that I stay armed to the hilt.

Do I live in a seedy neighborhood??

                          Dont we all??

                            My true story.

I lived in Riverside back in the 70's& 80's and had my pump defender shotgun (7+1). The wife and kids had left to visit the inlaws and would be gone for a few days. The house was dark with no night lights on for the kids.

It was a warm summer night so I had left the sliding glass door off the master bedroom open with just the sheer drapes and screen door between me and the back yard.

I woke up for some reason and was sitting up thinking about hitting the john when I heard voices and some dark form climbing over my back fence from the common alleyway.

I reached under the edge of the bed and lifted my 12 gauge from it's bed rack as quietly as possible.

I almost couldn't believe what I was seeing. Almost like it was a dream or that I wasn't fully with it or something. I shook that off real damn quick since this dark form was now moving pretty quick towards my door.

I lifted the barrel towards the opening in the see thrus drapes as the figure, now lit up by the moon light and was reaching for the screen door. I was four feet from the guy as he began to move the screen open.

I racked the shotgun in the still night air and it sounded something like a locomotive crashing into a 747 crashing into a fuel depot breaking the silence.

I never said a word, but you have never see something move so fast!

He practically leaped over the wall in back and was gone down the street and around the corner to go wipe no doubt.

We most likely will not all get the good fortune to be awake like I was and have a loaded shotgun and the ability to see them without them seeing you like I had that night, when evil comes a knockin', but you should prepare for it. Go over in your mind what you would do and be ready for the day.

Of course the weapon of choice varies greatly on situation, circumstance, children, location and your ability to move and defend yourself. Just be sure your efforts to be safe do not endanger those you love more than some danger that might or might not come in the night.

First line of defense is 90 pound dog sleeping on the bed.

EOF after that to various handguns near nightstand & 870 nearby.

I keep my Mossberg, tube and saddle loaded with double 00 buck, readily available in the closet, but my Glock 19 with tac light, streamlight stinger (always good to have two lights) and 33 rnd mag (empty chamber due to 3 year old and 1 year old in the home) sit on my bedstand. Better to be over prepared and not need it, than be caught off guard and face the consequences.
