I would think that, with the deteriorating economy and what I believe (from reading messages at numerous online discussion boards) is a significant uptick in home invasions across the nation this past year, that not only will more and more people be keeping arms near their beds but they'll also be lots more folks carrying at all times when inside their homes.

    What do others here think?
And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if ... during periods of mass arrests ... people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror ... but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush ... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers ... the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!Aleksander Solzhenitsyn

I don't carry inside my home but I do keep my carry handgun in a place where I can pick it up on my way to the door. I never check the peep hole without being armed, and that also makes it convenient for me to pick up my pistol whenever I'm headed out the door to go somewhere. Also, if someone kicks in my door my retreat path takes me into my master suite where I keep a 9mm pistol, a 5.7X28mm pistol, and a 12 ga. shotgun in various locations. All loaded.

I don't live in a rough neighborhood but I do believe in taking precautions.

I'm a firm believer in "It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

That said, I keep my .40 Sig P226 Stainless with night sights loaded with Winchester Ranger SXT rounds in a gunvault within arm's reach of where I sleep. I keep a fully loaded magazine in the gun, not chambered. It also has a TLR-1 tactical light mounted to it for things that go bump in the night.

My main safe is located on the other side of my house that contains, among other things, a loaded Mossberg 500 (00 buckshot) with a Surefire 6P led flashlight attached to it.

I'm going to buy a second gunvault to keep somewhere in my kitchen so I can stash a CZ75 SP01 9mm with night sights and some form of tactical light.

With this setup, I will always have a firearm available within a moment's notice, no matter where I am in the house.

I say anybody who would carry to the grocery store but not at home hasn't given enough thought to the possibility of home invasion. You don't have to worry about children and stuff like that if your gun is in its holster and on you where it belongs.

I have a 1911 Colt .45 and a H&K USP .40 on my side... wife has a Taurus PT92 in 9mm and a Mossberg 12 ga loaded with Slugs and 000 mixed. No safe, no locks, no kids.

My nightstand is from the 1930's and has a bible shelf attached to the door on the front. Needless to say, I moved the bible to make room for my .38 that is also from the 1930s-1940s. Loaded with an extra speed loader.

Live in a pretty good area... Not M or P.... reason is obvious, for the same reason that you keep it for any other reason... at the ready... not real sure how to elaborate on this..
It is a Tomcat, .32, with two full extra mags..
with a 590 2-3 ft. farther away... ))buck all 8, yes chambered..
Thats for if they piss me off...
and various others thoughout, stratigically located... because they all won't fit in the safe.... LOL!... No one under 18 y.o. in the house any longer.. so to my knowledge there is no other driving force that would dictate that I need/have to do otherwise...

I live in a very quiet town, but my neighbor's house still got broken into, he confronted the suspect and booted him out of the house. The suspect was on probation for burglary and he and his friend had just broken into another neighbor's car. One suspect was caught and this guy was hiding in my neighbor''s home, he took off and the cops ran him down, as luck would have it the badguy was smart enough not to use a weapon when he was confronted by my neighbor-found him hiding in the kitchen. It could have been worst. So yeah paranoid aside, I do keep a loaded pistol handy.

I keep a 357 Dan Wesson in the night stand, There are also two large dogs that keep there presence known.
The neighborhood is so so, but I have a small wash behind the house that that attracts all sorts of low life drug users.
