Do people keep a bed side gun?

I have my .40 cal Steyr next to my bed, and my wife has her Beretta next to her.

Not paranoid as some of you might think. My next door neighbors house got broken into at 2:00pm! and they tried to rob them at knife point. Cops got the idiot and no one got hurt. This was about 8 months ago.

pistol loaded but not chambered same with the ar under the bed,my neighborhood is safe/and quiet just want to be prepare just in case shtf,"the jungle" is just near us so better be prepared than sorry

Boy, I'll probably get slammed for this, but a lot of you guys sure are paranoid!! Can you just imagine the time and expense of trying to prove self-defense or even having to deal with the court system in California? I deal with lawyers and the courts a lot in my line of work, and let me tell you that it just isn't worth the hassle.

I am neither LEO or military and have never kept a gun bed side, as I have never felt threatened inside my home. I have an excellent burglar alarm system that monitors everywhere a burglar can get through, and if that doesn't scare him off, I have my cell phone to call the cops and various martial arts weapons that I have trained on at my disposal while I wait for LE to arrive. I'd rather avoid trouble rather than confront it - a gun bed side will only increase the likelyhood that I may use it.

I do have my panic room, however, just in case the burglars are more persistent or if the SHTF and zombies start to attack

Using martial arts weapons to maim or paralyze someone will probably get you in more trouble than using a gun at your home to defend against deadly force. That is much more well established case law with a lot of precedent.

Keep in mind, A LOT of martial arts weapons are actually illegal in Califorina. I had to throw out a bunch of stuff when I moved here.

Wouldn't the "various martial arts weapons" still leave you open to liability in the same manner the use of a firearm would? Many martial arts weapons are considered deadly weapons, are they not? Unless you have the non deadly ones...

It took twelve minutes to get to an operator from hold when I called 911 on time.

Last time I called 911 for cops to get somewhere where someone was assaulting someone on the street, it was over 20 minutes after a six minute hold.

Wouldn't the "various martial arts weapons" still leave you open to liability in the same manner the use of a firearm would? Many martial arts weapons are considered deadly weapons, are they not? Unless you have the non deadly ones...

I doubt that a broomstick used as a bo staff or tool handles used as escrima sticks would qualify as a "deadly weapon" in a court of law; rather, just objects that happened to be laying around. You can pretty much improvise and convert anything, including extention cords, pens and whatnots into weapons and use them with deadly force.

USP45f in a guardall safe with keypad lock two feet from the bed. One round chambered, 11 in the mag, hammer down, and safety off. All other guns locked in the big safe.

I'm a pretty light sleeper so from the time i'm jarred awake its about 4-5 seconds to get the gun out. I keep a maglite handy as well.

No children in the house with me, but I prefer having everything in a safe. With my luck the one day I forget to take the pistol out of the bedside holster and put it in the safe before work, that's the day someone breaks in and takes it.

1. I'm sorry, but I'm not James Bond. I'd like to believe that people are inherently good and are not out to make trouble. Of course, there are the exceptions, but I don't want to live my life constantly looking over my shoulder expecting trouble.

2. Thanks, but who said that there was even going to be a fight? Like I said in my previous post, I'd rather avoid trouble by trying to scare him off until law enforcement arrives. (oh, BTW, I just live 3 blocks away from the closest station)

i took 9 years martial arts ending with 4 in special weapons class. If I heard someone who shouldn't be in my house... the first thing i would get is my sword....to cut open a box of ammmo. just kidding. I honestly would never use my martial arts training if I thought someone got into my house because you don't know how many of them they are,what they want (you might think its a in the middle of the night burglery but it might be a home invasion), you don't know if their armed, and you dont know if they got to someone in your house FIRST. Lets see someone do a running jump round house to the bg who has someones wife,son,or daughter at knife point from 14 feet away.

first thing i would reach for is my phone, then my glock and while going through my door my mossberg. After i pick up my glock all i have to do is rack the slide and im good. easy enough to do while im getting up from bed.

If they have a gun and you have a broom handle, who do you think is going to be more scared? I'd rather have a gun and have only needed a broom handle than only have a broom handle and wish I had a gun. Not to mention the fact that you don't know what kind of martial arts training or how good a street fighter they are. Are you convinced you can win any fight? I'd rather depend on them not being able to dodge bullets.
