I have a XD9 and my girlfriend a G19 and whenever I go to the range I shoot them both. They're both great pistols, and you really have to shoot both and decide from there. They are virtually equal in quality. If you like those pistols you should also consider the M&P 9, which I love and will be my next purchase. The ergonomics and rounded lines of the M&P feel great in the hand.

If I had to choose today between XD and glock, i'd probably buy a G17 as I slightly prefer the grip angle and lower bore axis. BUT ... with the 3 free mags promotion and the XD essentials package running at $429 ... It's hard to resist the XD. An XD and 5 mags for $429? Pretty sweet deal.

like everyone says its personal prefrence. I would go with a glock any day over an XD i REALLY dislike the small rear grip safety beacause you would need a full grip of the pistol to manipulate that safety. for instance, in a home invasion, your awaken by a intruder that has come through your bedroom door so you panic and grab your XD and dont get the proper grip of the firearm and didnt manipulate the rear grip safety and you pull the trigger...or at least try to and it doesnt fire....now what? all of this can happen in a split second.

thats why i would go with the glock. but once again its all about personal preference

ive had an xd 45 for a few years now. its awsome gun. ive put about 2000 rds thru it i think and zero gun malfunctions, only one ammo issue.

however i have considered glock of late. the aggressive grip angle is becomeing apealing, and all the magazine and other accessory options are there. ill just have to shoot my buddies glock 40, although i will be sticking with 45

Both are good guns and both have their own following. You can't go wrong with either one. I was in the same situation as you a few years back and I wound up getting the XD9 over the Glock. The XD felt more comfortable in my hand and I couldn't get use to the grip angle of the Glock. I'll be picking up an XD9 Tactical in about 2 weeks.

Head to the range and rent both and whichever handles better in YOUR hands is the one that you wanna go with. OR depending on where you live we have several Calgun's shoot event's. If you attend one of them I'm sure there will be at least a few XD's and Glocks out there that the owner would be more than willing to let you shoot.

It's almost impossible to grip an xd and pull the trigger without engaging the grip safety, especially under the circumstances you described.

You'd have to intentionally avoid the grip safety and it would be extremely awkward and uncomfortable to shoot.

I like them both but prefer the Glock. I do have an XD in my night stand and feel confident tha it'll go bang if I need it to. It's had thousands of flawless rounds through it.

The things I like the most about glocks are their lower bore axis and their simplicity. And their finish.

But when it comes down to reliability and durability IME they're eqaul. I'd be very surprised if someone that actually owned both would disagree.

One also has to realize that the large majority of opinions in this thread are made by people that don't own both.

Without looking at any replies, get a Glock. HK invented the polymer frame, but Glock perfected them for mass production and brought them to the mainstream. As far as I'm concerned, any plastic-framed gun other than a HK is a Glock imitation/knock-off.

Springfield, on the other hand, is one of the only manufacturers that I'd buy a 1911 from, the others being Kimber and Colt. They specialize and/or are known for the 1911, much like the Glock is the standard for polymer. The XD and XDm are just wannabes, made to capitalize on the popularity of Glocks.

This is just one man's opinion.

the reason why i said that is because when i was looking to buy a hand gun my wife and i went to an indoor range, and rented a few guns including the XD. i wanted a handgun that would be comfortable for the both of us. my wife picked up the XD and she didnt grip the firearm correctly to disengage the grip safety (small hands). So i saw this to be a problem if she had to use it in a high stress situation. but once again its all personal preference like i stated before.

Most of the negatives the hardcore Glock guys parrot over and over are overblown and for every negative you can come up with for the XD, you can find one for the Glock. They are very much alike but do have there differences. Dont buy into the lame its just a copy, things that are copied are usually improved upon. Bottom line both are good service weapons and you will be happy with either one. But please if you can shoot them both, then decide. I could'nt and have several of both oh and buy the way I can rack the slides on my XD/XDm all day long with one hand.

If you are griping a handgun so low on the frame that your hand does not push in the grip safety on an XD you would not hit anything with it anyway. How in gods name did her finger reach the trigger?

And all glock vs XD aside, I just sold my XD for a Ruger LC9 because I wanted something thinner than my XD9SC as a carry gun. I traded capacity for thin and small. I REALLY like the manual safety that the ruger has and even like the loaded chamber indicator. Only thing I wish I could change on the ruger is the mag disconnect and I think there's a mod for that already.
