Bottom line is do you want the original (Glock) or copy cat (XD)?

Can't shoot a glock worth a crap. I had an XD till just a week ago when I PPT'd it to another friend who bought it. I liked it a LOT. Had a good few thousand rounds down the pipe with only 1 hiccup and it was the limp wristed guy shooting it! I liked the backstrap safety quite a bit and the trigger safety just like glocks. Takedown on it was a piece of cake and disassembly of everything was super easy. It shot on target and I liked the sights quite a bit. Never needed a bit of drifting or moving anything. Springfield's warranty is second to none and they are great to deal with although I never did and seldom hear of anybody needing anything with the exception of some 1911 work. My opinion, I feel Springfield is the safer of the two and I preferred the grip angle but others like glock and will say otherwise. Your call, you should rent one of both and shoot for yourself.

And as a side note, for an HD gun they make some awesome expansion rounds in 9mm now that are phenomenal and have just about the oomph as a .40 does. I'd go 9mm just for the price alone of ammo if you're just going to be doing some range plinking.

Oh, and put on your flame suit because the glock fanboys will come out to play everytime. "If its not a glock its not the original" "if its not made in..." You get the picture.

They're both equally well built guns, it really is up to you.

Check the trigger reset on both Glock and Springfield XD... and you will know why I choose Glock over Springfield XD every time.

          I own 3 Glocks and NO XD's.

Look, if you want a steak, DO NOT order a steak at a fish & chips restaurant...!

If you want a Springfield, get a 1911... they are masters of the 1911.

Glock makes Glock... they do not make 1911's... they make Glock.

The XD is only a copy, a good try... but a copy nonetheless of Glock.

Okay... now refer to video above ^^^

Hmmm ... I've taken at least one pistol class per month this year, high round counts, about half of them with my XD ... no problems. I haven't noticed anyone else's XD fail either, or any Glocks for that matter. I've seen a couple of 1911 pistols have some issues, but I am guessing they weren't well maintained.

I tend to think of the XD as being marginally less reliable under harsh use. This is based upon the greater number of parts (more things to go wrong) but not any personal experience or observation.

I can't think of any reason why an XD, Glock, Ruger SR or S&W M&P shouldn't be considered roughly equal in reliability for standard self-defense or LE duty use. If you start talking hard use, sandboxes, gravel pits, etc. ... different story.

Trigger reset can be fixed, just like the mushy trigger on both guns.

Get over it people, some people like glock, some people like XDs, go shoot both and decide for yourself.

Get the one you're most accurate with, if ammo cost is a big variable, then go with 9mm. Good luck.

                    Zombietactics,

There are a number of reasons why the XD is not fit for police service, first, the grip safety that must be depressed to run the slide makes many one-hand, wounded officer clearance drills exceedingly difficult. Second, the lack of armorer training and small parts for replacement makes it unattractive for agency use.

As to the Ruger SR, I have no experience, bur Ruger has not been a serious player in the agency market since I was issued my first duty gun, a Speed-Six.

I carry a G21 on and a G19 off duty. I am not a Glock fanboy; I don't recommend Gen IV Glocks and think Glock Inc is a haven of douchebaggery.

However, in my experience, I cannot recommend the XD.
Tonight, I'm going up to an LMS Defense class in Fernley and one of the shooters is bringing his XD 45. He says he's got thousands of rounds through it with no problems. We'll see. I know he shoots more than me.

Whatever you pick, good luck and have fun shooting.

Really? I know the M&P has the APEX RAM to give it a more positive tactile reset. Works pretty well in my M&P 9. Not aware of any mods to the XD to improve reset, however. I had a Springer Precision drop-in kit in my XD-9 (meh trigger pull, no improvement in reset) and a Canyon Creek trigger job on my XD-45 Tactical (much lighter and crisper pull, no improvement in reset). Is there something new?

ETA: Overall, the Glock's trigger is easier and cheaper to improve than the other two, and the end result (most importantly) is better as well.

All the springer guns I have handled had better resets, but they were not drop in kits, and they were competition, not carry trigger jobs.
Same with the one Robar done XD Ive played with.

I cant say this with authority, but from what Ive seen/experienced, the XD 45 has a longer reset then the 9's. I know at least mine does : )

Can't go wrong with either and should really try out what works for you.

Personally, I've chosen Glock as my platform for now because pretty much it works for me and although there are handguns out there that might shoot slightly better (haven't found one for me yet).. really not good enough to offset the cost, ease of maintenance (easiest detail stripping and parts replacement), and availability/low cost of parts that comes with Glocks.

Few years ago.. you couldn't really get me to buy a Glock. I only went for all steel guns. Right now, I know I'll have at least one Glock in my collection because its a gun I know I can easily repair should anything go wrong. No long wait for parts and the thing is as basic as Legos to put together. The few times I flirted with the idea of getting another H&K.. I think of how expensive the mags were.. let alone any other parts and how difficult it was to acquire them.

I'll agree with you there that for an officer it may be difficult if he/she were by themselves and needed to rack something using their feet. While the oridinary citizen is not likely to get into this type of a situation, even for police it isn't the norm. Gunfights are bloody, brutal and downright awful but for a citizen, it does tend to make a safer carry gun. A person is going to be holstering and unholstering it loaded with one in the chamber and that said, the extra grip safety may make the difference between putting one in your leg or not.

, first, the grip safety that must be depressed to run the slide makes many one-hand, wounded officer clearance drills exceedingly difficult. Second, the lack of armorer training and small parts for replacement makes it unattractive for agency use.

Not true. For instance, the XD uses a roll pin for the firing pin retainer pin which is not as durable as a solid pin and is a known weak point.

The XD grip safety is a design defect, as well. You cannot cycle the slide without it being depressed, which can give trouble to people doing support hand manipulations and single hand manipulations.
