I also have been to a NorCal shop that has said since the beginning it thinks SSE is illegal. Recently a guy behind the counter said he doesn't think SSE is illegal but one shouldn't use a SSE'd gun in a self-defense situation or be in big trouble. From multiple employees over several visits, I've heard a whole lot of various FUD and flat out wrong legal information that I just smile and go with it. It's their opinion and their shop, so not my place to debate.

the good news is... SSE (as of this post) - is well understood, completely legal and a total frustration for the minority few that want to control free citizens of CA...
The bad news is... the minority few are butt-hurt because they can't control the legal acquisition from free citizens... so regulatory restraint has been implemented by the overlords...
The question is not "how do we find a way around it"... it's "how do we retain Freedom"!
Minority rule does not equate... *for those too dense too understand, this has nothing to do with race (I agree it's pathetic and disgusting that it needs to be mentioned - but there are some that will twist the meaning)...
In a social environment with law abiding citizens, deemed safe and legal to carry a weapon... there should be no restrictions from common manufactured weapons.

Most guns being SSE'd today have never been on roster.
There's nothing illegal at all using an SSE'd gun (vs. a non-SSE'd) in self-defense. I've heard the counter argument that an aggressive DA could try the "gun was modified and unsafe" angle, but I don't really see how that would hold up in the real world. An easy defeat to that argument is the SSE'd gun was modified back to the original manufactures configuration, the same stock configuration currently being sold to LE organizations within California and everyone else in the majority of the country. I don't see the case, but maybe my tin-hat is too thin.Comment

Thanks for the reply!!Yes, you are correct. Regarding an SSE purchase, check with the store that's selling it to you (not all stores do SSE BTW) regarding the last day you need to have it DROS'd. Some stores are stopping on Dec 31, some Dec 21, some earlier than that because they don't want to be stuck with your gun if you have a DROS delay.Comment

Quick noob question regarding the SSE-- does the transfer need to be complete by 12/31, or in process? In other words, if I am in my 10-day wait and don't pick it up by 12/31 is that okay? Or do I need to start the process by 21/21 so I can pick up by 12/31?
Hope that makes sense, thanks for the help.Comment

Most FFLs have 12/31 as the final day to start the SSE process. Some are even DROSing until 11pm on New Years Eve. Hello all and Happy Holidays. Just an FYI for those in SoCal looking to get in a last minute SSE purchase, Orange County Firearms is doing their level best and processing DROS on SSE's until 12/31 with pickup in Jan. (no affiliation here just passing on info).
I purchased a nice Walther PPQ M1 9mm from them today, went down this morning and did the DROS, there were a lot of very friendly staff and they really seemed to have their act together. First time I've dealt with them and I was very impressed- especially with their level of knowledge and process for the SSE. They are definitely busy though- at 10am there was a line out the door.
A real shame we have to deal with these insane petty restrictions on our 2nd amendment rights.Comment

I really want one of those M&P pros....last minute idea...Is this possible;
my buddy in Co buys one, his FFL converts to SSE, sends to an FFL here.(but here is the kicker) I would have to take possession after 1/1/15 with my 10 day wait...or since its used it doesn't matter?
