In any case, the firearm has to be in a condition acceptable to be transferred, meaning it has to be done anytime before the DROS is submitted and can not be changed until the transfer is completed (best to walk out the door).
So before I start DROS, I can have it converted to SSE at my FFL.

Do you think it may need fitting on a Dan Wesson? Does it need to be racked? Fitting is grinding down the area of the barrel that contacts the top of the slide so it can go out of battery?

I realized after how the training magazine would be fixed in the well by the longer grip screw.

Now how would I know which barrel link is the right one to order for a Dan Wesson Valor?
I don't have any experience with Dan Wesson 1911's only their revolvers.

"Does it need to be racked?" - I'm guessing you're asking if the gun has to function. Yes it does.

As to the fitting it has to do with the link, the locking lugs and the bushing.

Here are the locking lugs as seen on the barrel (top) and slide (bottom)

You could also get a new bushing from eSarco and use that one with the SSE barrel.

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

It MUST be in a roster exempt form BEFORE you DROS it if you are not a roster exempt person.

Sorry for asking so many questions, just want to get this right. So if I get the new bushing I would still need the barrel link and pin? If I need both which barrel link would I get 13NM or the standard.

As for the fitting of the barrel. I could take this to a gun smith and have him fit it with loose enough tolerances so it should work on all 1911s and also so it won't damage the slide on the one I'm SSEing.

Yes you still need the link and pin. The barrel won't function with out it. Getting the new bushing will allow you to fir the new barrel to the new bushing.

Not sure. I'm sure there is a way to have one conversion kit work on many guns I'm just not sure what they are doing to them.

What a great thread and I want to say upfront that I have not read all of the pages. Is there a list of gun shops willing to ship off roster guns to a 07 FFL?

Dont know if you are in southern california but I talked to:

                  Direct Action Solutions
                  722 Genevieve Street, Suite G
                  Solana Beach, CA 92075
                  (858) 436-7088

Great people and willing to do the SSE, call them to see if they have one in stock and if not then you will have to find an out of state dealer willing to ship

Chris at Digital-instincts.com in Sunnyvale does SSEs on Glocks and 1911s (maybe more). Good service, quick response times, and good prices.

Looking at Sac Firearms Transfer's website it looks like he's not going to be doing business anymore due to personal reasons... That sucks I was going to give him my business.
