Firearms on Facebook?

This. But a lot of my friends and family are aware and/or support my hobby or are shooters themselves. And I have a lot of Calgunners on FB too so they get tagged on some of my pictures.
ETA: and yes, even my work is aware of my hobby and how I enjoy shooting.Comment

isn't facebook for high-school kids?Comment

I used to throw stuff up there and now I just do certain things like my range trips. I don't just put up frivolous pictures of my collection or location though. I don't want people knowing I own any large amounts of guns or ammo. Now its just a couple randoms of here and there shooting.Comment

I put me with an AK pistol as my only photo and it does a good job of keeping tree hugging bleeding hearts away from me. I deactivated my account when I realized I already have enough friends.

every now and then ill post a pic of a firearm.. however most of the time if there is a firearm in a pic its in the background or a competition photo.. im not worried about what friends/family see/think because they are my friends/family.. they already know how i feel about things..Boy the way Glen Miller played, songs that made the hit parade, guys like us we had it made, those were the days, and you know where you were then, girls were girls and men were men, mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again, didn't need no welfare states everybody pulled his weight, gee our old Lasalle ran great, those were the days!

If you want to put your business in the street, go ahead on. Same as posting a picture of your coin collection, jewelry, etc.Originally posted by 762.D3A7HI was just curious what the general Calguns consensus is pertaining to posting photos of your firearms on facebook, twitter or any other social networking site. Do you do it? Know of people who do? Advise not to? What's your personal stance on the matter?
I'm mixed on the subject and would like your feedback on the matter
.
Thanks in advance!
Help me understand why you'd want to in the first place.

Sounds good BUT you cannot tighten up that Facebook open information agreement with those PEOPLE!!!You know you can tighten up your privacy settings to where people that are not on your friends list can not see any of your info/pics/friends list/wall posts/etc. I would not friend a prospective employer prior to them hiring me (and maybe not even AFTER they hired me) but that's just me.When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.

I do. I see it as no different as posting pictures here or any other public forum. I don't have any info on FB that I wouldn't want anybody to have, and I only add people that I know personally. I also never use the "Check In" feature because I think it's unsafe.
Regarding the people that think it is only for High Schoolers, the only reason I joined FB is because when I left boot camp I was sent to Newport, RI and it was a cgood way to keep up with friends and family. Now I use it to keep up with people that I met in my command and have since moved on to other commands.Comment

+1 There are ways to use social networking tools to keep up with friends and family without opening yourself to unnecessary risk.
I don't know anyone's particular situation so I'm sure there are some people who are simply being prudent, but there's a lot of paranoia here and in the gun owning community at large. If you've ever had a DROS submitted with your info then the .gov knows you have guns. We are a silent majority and the more we normalize gun ownership in non-confrontational ways the less there is to fear.

I've posted maybe 3 pics of my guns on FB and a couple of some sexy ammo. But I have a friend who pretty much has to have a gun in every pic. No pics of me posing with my gun. No profile pics with guns. They are mostly for me to have and not store on my computer.
