    Firearms on Facebook?

I was just curious what the general Calguns consensus is pertaining to posting photos of your firearms on facebook, twitter or any other social networking site. Do you do it? Know of people who do? Advise not to? What's your personal stance on the matter?

I'm mixed on the subject and would like your feedback on the matter .

    Thanks in advance!

I don't do it. I have Lib family members (some actually live in San Francisco) who would see it as an invite to comment. I also have FaceBook "friends" that I went to High School with 20 years ago that don't need to know I own guns.

I don't, I have a lot of family that I'm friends with on FB who are EXTREMELEY anti gun. Not too mention my family back in Italy. I don't bother telling them about my gun hobbies, cause I would just get a bunch of crap. So I can only imagine if I posted my "blackguns."

But also what about for security and privacy reasons? I'm sorry but I don't want my 371 friends on Facebook knowing about my arsenal. I don't need to advertise that.

I do. Guns are a part of my life and every one of my family/friends knows that. If someone want's to be a jerk about it I can delete their comments or delete them as a contact.

          Not a good idea. Period.

You don't control any of that data (and associated privacy settings) once you upload it to Facebook, and it's linked directly to your name (and presumably, pictures of your face).

Employers routinely troll social networking sites for information on prospective employees. And the information they're looking for doesn't ever result in "hey let's hire this guy NOW".

It usually results in "oh hey, it looks like he's [...insert activity....] ...let's pass".

I don't have a facebook I hate the idea of social networking and people I don't know wanting to be my friend and causing drama the closest I get to a social networking site is calguns now with that said my girl friend has a facebook (like all girls do) and she wanted to look cool or thug like or whatever she said ( I try not to pay attention when she talks jk) so I let her barrow a few of my guns and I took some pics for her so to answer the op question no I don't post pics of my guns on my facebook because I don't have one but yes I know of people who do
That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. Dosen't show up on your airport X-ray machines, here, and it cost more than you make in a month.

I totally agree, and I also have family back east and in Italy. For the most part they're really liberal and anti-gun. My brother, and my father are the only 2 in my family who share the pro-gun mind set I do. That's why I was mixed on the matter. Also the security question came to mind as well; I don't want friends of friends to see what I have and take it upon themselves to try and break into my place and find where I keep my arsenal.

Whenever you post something on facebook, you should assume that anyone could be looking at it. If you are comfortable with random people knowing about your guns, go ahead and post!

You never know who's watching. Could be a local thief, a current or prospective employer or even good old Uncle Sam. There is only 2 times anyone is going to see my guns. 1. At the range. 2. When i have to defend myself or my family.

Thieves are the lowest form of life out there, except for liberal politicians, of course, but that's redundant.

Everybody who knows me know's that I'm a gun person. That's what I do for a living and there's no way to hide that fact. If somebody wants to run their mouth then so what, I can't control what a person thinks or how they feel nor should I care if they are offended. If their cool, great, if not, f**k em.

The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

I haven't yet, but have friends who do. I have setup privacy settings that exclude certain groups of people. Lots of anti-gun family, I support the 2A passionately, but have respect not to push my views onto unwilling others.

I would post pics in certain albums, but never as my profile pic. Only friends can see my actual pictures, non-friends can only see main picture. E.g. prospective future employers.
You think you know, but you have no idea.

I'm not friends with anybody that would have an issue with me owning a gun. But i dont post it on FB.

I've (temporarily) deactivated my facebook for a more than a month now. It feels great! Give it a try.
I'll be cancelling the my account eventually.
