Your looking for equipment to make a good shot change into a bad shoot. This would be criminal law. Equipment will make little to no differnece in criminal law except possibly in the case of a ND.

The civil case is where equipment can have an affect.

If you can find a civil case where guns mods was a significant factor for negative judgement in a clearly justifiable self-defense case (criminally speaking), that would be a good data point.

Really not insterested in spending my time in researching case law.
If you want the data, you can spend the time searching case law to see.

Never said that I know more than he does.
I have reviewed his work and have talked with many agencies on thier policies.

My conclusion is still, shoot a factory firearm with factory ammo and you are in the best position to defend yourself in court.

Constantly people on this forum, at least talk about a firearm that is the best for SD but only after a trigger job or I have a new SD firearm and now I have to load some ammo for it.
My responce is to shoot a factory firearm with factory ammo. If you have to use your firearm in self-defense, your court battle may be easier this way. Your court battle will not be easy so making it easier is better.
If your opiinion is I can do anything you want, then that is your choice and your are the one that has to deal with the aftermath.

Learn aboit trigger resets and it wont be a problem.

Dont let go of the trigger until the gun fully cycles. Then, feel for the reset as you release, and then fire again.

If you threw a hammer at him would it have to be factory spec?

I'm not advocating you do any of that in that scenario, just asking the obvious rhetorical questions.

PS: I've probably unknowingly shot a few matches with you.
In that scenario that person is more than likely become a hero. If it was a home defense situation and I gun down a couple of young thugs with the same gun it will probably be detrimental to my defense in court.

I have searched case law and found nothing. The FBI states there were 6,371 homicides with handguns in 2012. Surely in the last 20 years there is at least one case that matches the criteria. However, I'm not making the trigger mod claim so the burden of proof is not on me. It's on those who make the claim.

The odds of a civilian getting into a shoot out are ridiculously low. Assuming you find yourself in one, the first priority is the safety of you and your loved ones. The second should be legal concerns. I assume everyone agrees with that.

Effectively operating under stress is not easy. Taking a life is not easy. If you and your loved ones have survived an attack, you've already 'won'.

Regarding mods, there are two factors at play: (1) the increase in effectiveness of the mods, (2) the liability concerns. People weigh each side and decide what is more important to them. On a scale of 1-10, if you think mods makes you 1 or 10 more effective, you need real training. If you're petrified of criminal/civil liability, unfortunately your only option is to blow your rape whistle, close your eyes, and bend over. Obviously the correct answer for an individual is somewhere in between and is a personal choice.

How do you figure? Did these three things happen?

                  1) Reasonably believed that you were in imminent danger of being killed, injured, or touched unlawfully,

                  2) Reasonably believed that you needed to use force to prevent that from happening, and

                  3) Used no more force than was necessary to prevent that from happening.

If so, you've met the metric for legal self-defense. You could have used your open gun or a broom to perform your defense.

I choose not to alter any of my defense weapon triggers at all.

Sport and comp guns make sense - but not defense guns (IMO).

All of my defensive handguns are Glocks with factory triggers.

Ok, you have to use the firearm to defend yourself.
                        The dirtbag pays the price.
The dirtbag's family takes you to court (Civil case).
Dirtbag's family states, you had to make the firearm even more deadly.
The jury gives the dirtbags family even more money from you.

Is the lighter trigger worth it?

to be fair, you're gonna get sued anyway - a situation where you have to fire your weapon is bad for EVERYONE.

but again, that's why it's called a last resort.

                            LOL.

Based on some of the statements here, that's what gonna happen.

Nice so you talk to many agency about their policies? Which ones and for what reasons? I do know that department policy is made to protect the agency and not the officer.

... and yet many reputable companies sell defensive carry trigger kits for popular SD/HD guns. Are they not knowledgeable of the risks to their customers?

I think we make too much of ifs.
