      Q re current policy of Solano sheriff

      As you guys understand it, what's your best guess as to which of these GCs would work in Solano (from easiest to toughest, choose the easiest that will fly and I'll assume the tougher ones below it would also work):
      (1) "mere" self-defense/exercise RKBA;
      (2) "avid shooter"/competitive shooter w/evidence (club fees receipts, photocopies sign in logs, awards, etc.) travels w/multiple semi autos and ammo which need defending;
      (3) live/work in "bad part of town/s";
      (4) crazy ex- has threatened me (here's copy of police report), got restraining order (here's copy), OR go for work in bad part of town w/lots of cash (e.g., collecting rent or other payments); or
      (5) same as #4 re. ex-, but they're in hiding and still making threatening calls (here's voice recordings), broke into my residence (here's police report), regularly drive by (here's video from home's exterior cameras).

      Just trying to get an idea of how hard it currently is to get a LTC/CCW in Solano. Thx

        In my experience you can say self defense but that by itself will not work. You have to explain and give reasons like the economy and crime in the area. My app was approved for self defense and I listed the reasons why. It is more difficult to pass background than it is the GC. They want you to be nearly perfectly clean. I failed background because of my "arrest history" 20 years ago that I disclosed in my app. So because I disclosed everything my GMC was not in question nor was it checked off on the denial letter.

          all three together below but not on their own

          #1 but not on it's own, but adding that help is far away when you're out in the wilderness along with the other points you listed
          #2 Didn't need to provide any proof though
          #3 as well and adding more prisoners being released

            Hi Paladin:

            The Sheriff is well aware of the rising crime in Solano County especially with the reduced police force. I've placed a link to Dave Adams's site if you're interested in reading about him. He's going to be sharing a booth with me in Fairfield if you want to speak to him in person.

            I mention Dave because he understands the problems people face in trying to fill out the paperwork. He's available to help and is a really nice guy. Of course, the fact that I'm plugging my CCW instructor never entered the picture - lol

            Please PM me if you have more questions, thx

                      I know you're not yet due for renewal, so I'm really curious to know what this all about. As far as I know, they're not calling existing permit holders, not even for renewal.

                      Please let us know tomorrow after you talk to Kelly. Hope you haven't been a bad boy since getting the LTC.

                        Yeah I haven't gotten any calls either. My guess is that it probably isn't good news.

                          I'd like to think on the positive side and hope it's just a record maintenance issue...

                            just DROS'd a gen 3 Glock 26 and plan on applying for my ccw soon. Can anyone whose been approved in Solano County steer me in the right direction on what's an acceptable good cause statement? I contacted Dave at Blueridge and his next schedule ccw app seminar won't be until November

                              My friend got HER approval letter last week. Gotta help her get a little more proficient in accuracy at the range but she should be good to go.

                                Sheriff Tom Ferrara

                                If you didn't get a chance to vist the Fairfield Home & Garden Show this past weekend, the Sheriff is holding a raffle with an autographed Henry rifle as the prize. You don't have to be present to win! [Saturday, Nov 16, 2013]

                                He has currently approved over 300 CCW applications and is very pro 2A. If you want to keep him in office and show your support, please visit his site. I was lucky enough to get a chance to meet him and speak with him because I was helping at the CRPA booth with Dave Adams.
