According to Yahoo, Stockton is one of the ten worst cities to live in, but according to the Sheriff we don't have a right to self defense; unless you are special. The city is relying on the CHP for help. The way things are going they may need to call in the FBI or the Army.

            Heres some stats:

            Stockton, Calif.
            Population: 292,047
            Violent Crime Per 1,000: 13.8
            2010 Murders: 49
Median Income: $45,730 (8.9% below national average)
Unemployment Rate: 18.4% (9.4% above national average)

With a jobless rate of 18.4%, up from 18.1% a year ago, Stockton, California has one of the worst unemployment problems in the country. The huge percentage of unemployed residents may have contributed to horrible crime rates in the city, which is located 40 miles east of Oakland and San Francisco. Stockton was rated one of the most miserable cities to live in the country by Forbes in March, 2010. Violent crime was one of the chief measurements for its ranking. Of the 267 cities with populations over 100,000, Stockton has the 27th highest number of murders per 1,000 people and the 12th most aggravated assaults per 1,000. Last year, recognizing the crime problems in the city, the state temporarily diverted hundreds of California Highway Patrol officers to aid the city's overwhelmed police department.

and yet Sheriff Moore states high crime rate and travelling through high crime areas are not valid GC. Go figure.

Not to mention all the dissension and bad blood between the Stockton Police officers association, Chief Ulring, City Manager and City Council.

New studies cast doubt on the notion that high unemployment is a cause of violent crime. If my memory serves me correctly Stockton has plenty of violent crime in the best of times.

Sit tight and wait for your denial letter recommending that you break the law. Then wait for the next set of instructions.

I just read the GCS for San Joaquin and now I have a better understanding of why we (as in CalGuns) were blindsided. It very much appears "self-protection" was a GTG good cause.

Is Sheriff Moore new to the position? What Changed?

My stated GC was simply "personal protection..." however, the coordinator (during my initial interview) felt the need to amend my GC with answers I was giving to his questioning. He believed that my stated GC would be insufficient.

I posted the below in the CCW Discussion forum and thought it would be worthwhile cross posting it here as well.

Hopefully, CGF/Gray will be able to get them to write out "Concealed Weapons Permits" on their homepage links and get to make available online their policy & DOJ application.

I wonder what percentage of the CA public knows what "CCW" stands for? It's not like there isn't enough room to write "Concealed Weapons Permits" since under the Public Info tab they write out "File a Police Report Online" and under the FAQs tab they write out "Criminal and Custody Records".

Once you follow the link, you're taken to a webpage (http://www.co.san-joaquin.ca.us/SHERIFF/ccw.htm), where it does not mention "CCW" and only says the below. It does not have either the application or policy available online.
