That is what I did plus I read the entirety of this thread. Maybe go back 20 pages or so and read from there? But for the most part, the Sheriff's website is all you really need.

The site where you would get the CCW application for San Joaquin County, San Joaquin County Sheriff.

Not sure how others started but I pretty much read every page.

But my actual process pretty much consisted of getting the application from the site and gather any documents I felt I needed. I went and got my DMV driving record at the DMV since the online request only gives roughly 3 years of history.

Filled out the forms and called for an appointment. When I went to my appointment, it was pretty straight forward. Take a picture, they go through your application with you ("the interview"). They take your fingerprints and payment and then you wait...

About 9-10 months in they called me to asked if anything has changed in my application, I told them I had purchased another handgun that I wanted to add to the permit. The lady told me to just tell the investigator that handles my case when/if I get approved. I took the training a couple months before my year anniversary and a couple months after that I got an email that I was approved and the available times for pick up.

Went in to pay the rest of the fee, the lady checked on my 3rd handgun and then typed up my permit. I signed it and she laminated it and I was gtg.

My "dirt" went back 40+ years. Had interview with Sheriff Moore.

Interesting. I just looked up the penal code (12050 4A & 4B) and it states that we must notify the issuing agency of a move in residence within 10 days and if the move is out of the issuing county, the permit expires 90 days after the move.

I had looked it up as well. When I submitted the application for a permit in my new county, the gal there told me it was good for 90 days. So when I got home, I found the PC to find for sure.

I just found the tone of the exchange with the gal at Professional Services rather odd...

Just a quick aside to this:
After relocating to an adjoining county, I called the Professional Services office to inform them of my move. I was told by the gal that answered the phone that my permit was only good for 60 days and that I needed to return it to the SO immediately. I asked why I would want to send my permit in if it was still valid and she got snotty with me and repeated that I needed to return it immediately. When she asked my name, I hung up on her.

Yes, unfortunately you have to start over once you establish residency up here. I believe your current permit will only be good for 90 days after you move....

If you happen to be moving to the city of Ripon, you can apply through the Ripon PD and get your permit within 4 to 6 weeks. Everywhere else in the county and you're stuck with going through the sheriffs office.

Thanks so much for that info man. Ripon is totally doable for my commute. I am definitely going to do this i am not waiting a year.

Even if you are licensed in a different county, I believe that you have to start over and re-apply in San Joaquin county, once you move there. Sorry man.
