I don't believe they are as backed up as they seem.
When I asked a year ago how many permits they process a week the girl said they were doing 20 a week for a long time, but it had dropped back to about 10.
Yet with that lull, the 13-14 month process did not improve.
If they processed permits in a timely and efficient manner, they would have a line of applicants a mile long.
What better way to weed out lots of applicants than to have a ridiculously long wait.
That also is a great way to find out who has patience, a very good attribute for a perspective permit holder.

I can appreciate that they are backed up with applications .And when you go to turn in your app or pick up your permit everybody is busy no screwing around. But would we put up with this kind of wait for a building permit or marriage liecens or Anyother Goverment required paper work. The board of sups should increase the sheriffs budget to take care of the back logLeave a comment:

I downloaded the application online, filled it out, needed 2 payments. $128 livescan and $20(I think) DOJ fee. Took 40 minutes and female sheriff that interviewed me was very nice and made me feel comfortable. She said they are so backed up it takes a year to process and do not take the 16 hour until my approval has come.Leave a comment:

I used to live in Stanislaus County. It didn't happen to me, but several people I know said that they received phone calls from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office informing them that their application for a CCW permit had been denied. After gauging the applicant's reaction, the sheriff's representative then told them that their application had in fact been approved. They just wanted to find out if the person would react irrationally to an adverse situation before giving the final stamp of approval.Leave a comment:

I figure Sheriff Moore is probably judging an applicant's character during an interview as much as anything. He maybe wants to see if one is a reasonable person or a "hothead". At least that was my impression during my interview.Leave a comment:

I had an interview with Sheriff Moore on my first CCW application back in early 2015 concerning arrests going back 40 years. He was very nice. Explained he could go by the information that was in front of him or I could explain my record to him. Just told him the complete truth. Carried my first 2 years and was approved on my renewal in 30 days.Leave a comment:

My nephew had an interview the sheriff , he was told he doesn’t need to carry a gun, was rude during the interview , and is sending him for a psych evaluationLeave a comment:

740isport, I have been following this thread for the past six years, and I can't say that I have ever seen an applicant receive a certified letter from the SJSO regarding an application for a CCW. By all means let us know what the issue is.Leave a comment:

Well, need to pick up a certified letter from the post office tomorrow from SJSO so I guess I'm either being denied or having to meet with the Sheriff personally. Odd though, have multiple permits from other states and zero on my record. I'll update after I pick up the letter and if I have a meeting, then, will wait until after that is concluded.Leave a comment:

Just to keep this thread moving, I did my renewal interview on July 25th and got the confirmation email today. 2 months beats the 1 year initial wait time.
Off to do training now.Leave a comment:

Why did your friend even have to meet with Sheriff Moore? That usually only happens when an applicant has some issues causing concern.Last edited by Mayor McRifle; 09-16-2017, 4:16 PM.Leave a comment:

3rd post on this page quoting from credible sources or second hand information from friends. If you didn't hear it directly from Sheriff Moore how about not posting at all?Leave a comment:

Sheriff Moore quotes from recent interview (not my interview, my friend's, i live in a free county- no interviews here)
"I do not have to accept 'self defence' as good cause anymore"
"I think only the police should be armed"
"Just call the police if you are being robbed"
Time for a new Sheriff San Joaquin...
oh and btw, he was very rude, very condescending and a general all around rhymes with tICK.
enjoy that calpers pension while it lasts "sheriff".Last edited by Falstaff; 09-15-2017, 8:11 PM.Leave a comment:
