Information for General Consumption: CCW Modification - adding new gun removing others.

3-27-17: Purchased new gun (out of 10 day jail)
4-9-17: Took my qualification course ($25) for new handgun (P229)
4-10-17: Took CCW qualification into Sheriffs office and filled out modification form which allowed me to delete two handguns and add one - be sure you know serial numbers. No appointment needed, I paid $10 and was told it would take 2 - 3 weeks to process.
    5-1-17: Received email that read:
    "Dear CCW Applicant,
Your CCW Modification has been completed. Make an appointment to come into the Sheriff's office on any Tuesday or Wednesday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. You will also need to return your old CCW permit at the time you come in to pick up your new CCW permit."

I called and made an appointment for tomorrow to pick up.

The reason I listed the date I purchased the gun was because sometimes it won't be in the federal database if you go in too soon after your purchase and that could delay the process further.

    Hopes this helps.

Ha! It's still a year and it's been that way forever. Not that I don't appreciate just the fact that Sheriff Moore continues to issue. I do.

You can prove you are a resident of San Joaquin County. You can pass a background check. You do not have an excessive amount of tickets. You own a handgun that is registered to you. And you wish to carry for the purpose of "self defense".

I'm sure someone will add-on if I missed something.

During your renewal interview you will probably be asked if you have been carrying all this time.

No. You take it after the investigator contacts you and tells you the date is near and they are sending it to the Sheriff for a signature. You want the 2 year period that your CCW qualification is good for to run concurrent with the 2 year permit.
