Day 193. Multiple contacts from my Investigator. No approval or denial yet...
Tomorrow is a new day, but I'm sure Tuesday will be MY day!! Hooray.Leave a comment:

Guys, we are getting a bit off topic. This is a great discussion that deserves its own thread, but please keep the discussion in this thread specific to San Joaquin County issues.Leave a comment:

There is nothing skillcraft about my qualification. I know how to shoot. Did I say I could not shoot that far with my subcompact? Did I say I needed assistance like apparently you did? Just because a person takes a class that demonstrates the proficiency, it does not mean they don't know how to shoot?
Just because you have not received your CCW yet, it no reason to talk to people like you are.Leave a comment:

I'm not saying to deny you because you can't hit a person at 15 yards with your firearm of choice. I'm saying if you can't hit a person at 15 yards you should not be carrying that firearm. And if you are taking the easy way out looking for a pencil whip on your class I hope you don't injure any inocent people in the unfortunate event you do fire in self defence. I'm sure their family won't sue you saying oh they passed the minimum qualifications thanks for trying even though my 7 year old is dead.Last edited by slipknot95758; 11-07-2014, 6:20 PM.Leave a comment:

Whether or not you should be denied the ability to carry at all isn't the question. If you're choosing to carry a tiny gun, and you can't consistently hit a torso at 15yds, you might reconsider your choice of carry guns. If you don't have enough time with the gun to pass a qualification, maybe you should invest more time in training with it before you carry it. A CCW qualification is a bare minimum skill test, everyone should be able to score 100%. It is a constitutional right, but in my mind, this right demands that you be proficient with your weapon before you take on the responsibility of carrying it.Leave a comment:

San Joaquin - *** TIME TO APPLY!!! ***
You are not going to learn how to handle you handgun. If want pushing, go to a specific handgun course. 2 day basic, defense, etc.., if you choose so. Other than introducing you to more advanced skills, it is worthless to expose people who have no advanced skill. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

I would suggest everyone pick one of the many instructors listed on the counties ccw application. That way you know for sure the county will accept it.
Also look at the class like a training opportunity. You don't get anything out of an instructor watching you handle a gun for 2 minutes and pencil whipping your cert. pick a class that may push you to do things outside the box so you know what your capabilities are whether is shooting a pocket pistol at 15 yards or shooting weak hand only. We all go to the range and shoot 3 or 5 yards... It's good to know I can hit torso easily at 15 yards with a pocket pistol and I know that because of the class I took.

I see what you are saying, but they force you to qualify what they deem as required. The state says you must show proficiency. if you went there expecting that, you got what you paid for. But if you spend a boat load of time shooting sub-compacts, doesn't mean others do. They may be deadly accurate at 5 and 7yds. So you think they should not be "allowed" to CCW? That's awful nice of you wanting to deny our basic right of self defense because they do not want to engage at long range with a sub-compact.Leave a comment:

The one I went to had a rigorous qualification but if you can't pass that I feel you shouldn't be allowed to carry it is something any one should be able to do if they have spent more than one day shooting a hand gunLeave a comment:

It is Best Handgun Training, in Lincoln. I chose them, because they offer the class in one day. The instructor was good. He retired as a firearms instructor with CDCR. I don't recall him spreading the same FUD as other instructors have been reported to have. And if you know something he does not, he is receptive to what you have to say.
I enjoyed the class. I liked the no BS of it. I am an ordinary shooter, I went to the class to learn the state requirement to ccw. I went not expecting to learn advanced shooting skills, and I was not disappointed. You demonstrate you are proficient and that is all. If you hope to learn advanced shooting, unless they have changed, you will be disappointed. Plus there are other classes dedicated to that elsewhere if you want to go that route.Leave a comment:
