Everything went well. They were expecting me and it was actually a very pleasant process for what it was.

Was your good cause personal protection? Still wondering if I should put down personal protection or self-defense.
Glad everything went smooth so far.

Pat Withrow stopped by my house yesterday afternoon to put his election sign in my yard. We talked for awhile. He is the real deal; sincere and honest. I asked his position on CCW, and he responded very positively that he supports the 2nd Amendment and the rights of good citizens to carry concealed. He has my support, both with my contributions and my vote.

            Yup, self defense.

In a way I am the test case I guess. Squeaky clean record, no tickets, active military, multiple training records both military and civilian, good references (though it was not asked or required). And enough extra cash to go through the hoops. We will see what happens.

I have a question about the number of handguns you can have on the license. On the application (I know, standard DOJ app), it has 3 lines & says use additional paper if necessary. However, it looks like Moore's policy is that you can have no more than 3 listed on a license. Anyone challenge this, or get more than 3 listed on their license?

I thought I would register for this forum and say my experience for the good of fellow 209's

went in and submitted my app and had an interview with a Capt.

Basically he went over my application line by line, word for word. The capt wouldn't commit to a time frame but the live scan guy said that after about 3 weeks they will get the DOJ results then they would be willing to commit to a preapproval...

It was relatively painless and now my fingers are crossed waiting. I thought the Captain and his staff was professional and courteous. My emails to/from melanie were responded to quickly. There was a new guy working the front desk when I went in, apparently covering for the absent Melanie, but he seemed to be managing.

My advice to anyone in San Joaquin desiring a CCW and otherwise qualified is to strike while the iron is hot. The captain told me their applications has increased by over 2000%..

The absolute influx of apps to these sheriffs shows the time is now.

                  Good luck to all.

                    Look what I just found:

Looks like the forms are now available online and the ccw link is on the front page of the Sheriff's Office web site....

Well nice! San Joaquin is officially shall issue now... to all those denied in the past but otherwise eligible, I suggest you get your application in.

"Good Cause: Applicants must establish that good cause exists to support a request for a license to carry a concealed weapon. Personal protection or self defense is sufficient to establish good cause. If the request is business related... "

Don't jump the gun. There are about 6 of us that have submitted under the self defense/personal protection route and we are still waiting for approval. I suggest everyone apply, but let's not say shall issue until we have a CCW issued.

Welcome to the site zWade and thanks for your earlier post with your recent appointment details. Best of luck with you being issued a permit.

I like your statement about our county officially being shall issue but I will not go that far until I see the sheriff approving permits (without restrictions) to all those who qualify and used lawful self defense as the good cause.

I worry a bit with the current state of the case and the people trying to intervene. I truly hope the majority opinion from the 9th stands and the self defense good cause becomes the law.

I wonder if the sheriff will go shall issue no matter what the outcome of the case so he can compete with his competition Pat who is no doubt very vocal about being Pro 2A and all for CCW's to everyone that is not prohibited.

Also wonder if things change after the election.

                          Time will soon tell.

                          Welcome again...

Anyone try with the city of Stockton recently? Any word on whether Eric Jones is being more generous with CCWs now too? I haven't bothered trying because it seemed such a lost cause for so long.
