I did my initial class at Best Handguns in Lincoln. I did not want to drive all the way back to Lincoln for one gun so Larry did my qualification locally for a very reasonable price. I will do my renewal class with him next year.

    1. How much did it set you back?
    2. Did you do your CCW class with Defensive Accuracy Firearms? Or did they just provide a gun qualification service for you upon request?

Contact Valley Defense Consulting. Pretty sure they will do just a handgun qualification.

I have a question. I already have my LTC for SJ County and would like to qualify/add a gun to my permit. I did this already for one gun at Best Handgun in Lincoln but would like to know if there is anyone local to SJ County that will do a simple handgun qualification. I cannot seem to find a place around here that will do just a qualification without taking the complete course.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Is personal protections still an acceptable good cause statement? I just turned 21 so hopefully that doesn't cause any problems. I'm finishing up my application and I will keep you all posted on how it goes.

Yup. And Duncan has "refresher" courses from time to time for his past students. The opportunity to draw from a holster & shoot isn't always allowed at the public ranges.

    ***UPDATE***
Recieved phone call/email a few days ago.

05/10/17 initial application, live scan submitted

01/29/18- received call from investigator asking if any changes on address, work, etc. He said my app was going to be moved up the chain and to look for a phone call/email for approval in 2-4 weeks? (I can't recall- I was so excited to finally get a phone call- lol) He said don't take the class until that phone call saying to do so. He also confirmed the 3 firearms on my application. (I am rethinking at only putting 2- not sure yet)

So is this good news....what else should/can I expect? Thanks in advance everyone.

BTW- any suggestions on a good CCW instructor?

Congrats! I wish I could've been approved that early; but an approval email is better than a denial letter. Debating if I want to take one of my 9mm pistols out and get a .45 to replace it.

If only the initial application was a quick as the renewal ones.

Congrats. I called on a Friday after reading your post and got a renewal interview for the following Tuesday. And I too received the approval email. 9 business days from interview to approval.

Great job by the San Joaquin Sheriff's Office.
