Her permit expires mid November. She called back in June and was told to come in in July. Mine expires mid January and I called about a month ago. My renewal appt. is next week.

The investigator did make a point of telling mama not to be in a hurry and wait until mid Nov. to pick up her permit. That gives me plenty of time to get her another gun...😠
If it ain't broke, keep fixin' it 'til it is...

      Got "the call" 9/6/16

Background investigator said he needed a utility bill from me, emailed it back to him ASAP. After that he said he was going to put it on the sheriff's desk. *Fingers Crossed* I know my record is clean but still..
      Very cool! Good for you!
Sure hope you get some kind of response from them quicker than they are working on mine.
Going to start taking bets if mine runs into 13 months........ lol

              *Update

Got an email from the background investigator a few minutes ago.

"I completed your folder and forwarded up the chain. You should hear something in a few weeks – At that time, enroll in one of the Sheriff’s approved courses."

Hopefully I hear back soon so I can enroll in a course ASAP!

If you're feeling confident about approval, enroll in a CCW class now. I completed my CCW class for San Joaquin County 4 months prior to my permit application being approved.

Is there a list anywhere (besides county website) of approved vendors for the classes?

Just a quick update after my renewal appointment:

The appointment went well. The investigator went over my application with me and told me that my changing employment shouldn't have any bearing on my renewal. He instructed me to enroll in a class and be ready for the call in a few weeks. He did tell me that if I'm approved, to wait until the week before my current expiration to pick up the permit. His reasoning was that I paid for two years and not to cut that short.

                      He was actually very pleasant.

While none of us like to wait soooooooo long to get a CCW approval, just remember that San Joaquin Co. is one of the few "Bay Area" counties that allows CCW's to most citizens. Forget about it if you live in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, San Mateo, etc...

                              Bay area county?????
Did the salt water come that far up the delta?
Did the earthquake happen, and half of California fell into the ocean?
Lake Tahoe the new "valley"? Lol

In this liberal state, it won't be long that San Joaquin county will follow suit. Liberal policies and agendas have a "creeping" effect.
When this county does change its policies, many that think this wait is acceptable will have a rude awakening. Especially the ones the just forked out a ton of money and went through the wait process, only to be told no more renewals........

                              13+ month wait is rediculous!!!!!!!

Finally have the ccw in hand.
                                Timeline:
                                Turned in app 8-16-15
                                Initial investigation call 8-18-16
Investigator called asking for a copy of my business license. 9-12-16
Turned in the required paperwork 9-13-16
Called with approval to pick up 9-21-16
                                Picked up ccw 9-27-16

I have to say this process was a bit out in left field at times.
When the call came on 8-18 why didn't the investigator inform me then that the sheriff would want to see a copy of my business license.

The icing on the cake was when they called last week on Wednesday at 3:30pm.
"You can pick your ccw up on Tuesdays or Wednesday's between 8am & 3pm."

I expected when I picked my ccw up today to be handed a informative packet or had the laws discussed on where you can and cannot carry, i.e. schools, court houses, bars, etc.
                                Nope, wasn't advised of anything.
Gave them my class cert, wrote a check, signed the ccw and the 10 day notification form, walked out with the ccw.

I had heard of the DOJ not registering guns to the proper owner, so I brought all of my "approved" paperwork you receive the day you pick up yoir weapon.
Sure enough, she says, "this" gun is not showing registered to you. So I pulled out the DOJ approved paperwork. Ok, but we can't add it to your permit based on this paperwork, let me check again...... Oh, here it is........

                                Glad this process is over!

For those thinking that they are swamped, hardly........ I asked her how many new ccw's they go through a week. She said they were receiving 20 apps a week for a long time, the last few weeks has been 10 new apps.
