As per the fees we pay for the ccw, we (citizens) are covering the costs to the Sheriff's office. Or at least that is what the break down states on the application paperwork.
If their demand is so overwhelming, then they should hire more employees since we are covering the costs anyway. I'd gladly pay double the fee to have this process done in a timely manner. Over a year is rediculous! Unless their cost to us is 10 cents a hour, they spend very little time on each application.
I'd be more inclined to believe that they want the process to be like this, to slow the amount of new applications, if the process only took two weeks, everybody and their uncle would be standing in line.

Why would I go to a local police chief when I live in the county?

You might get your permit quicker.

Man, you guys think a year plus wait is acceptable?
          Good for you!
          I think it is rediculous!
When I applied there were no new laws pertaining to ccw's. Now there is two bills on the table, based on the last go around, these will probably be signed too.
Just because the sheriff is issuing this year doesn't mean next year is guaranteed. What if he is not re-elected when that time comes, or retires?
If a year wait meant I had a ccw for the rest of my life, I might feel a little better about it.
But to have to wait a year, and not know how long a ccw will be in my possession is not comforting.
To lay out a ton of money and wait in limbo forever, then in a year or two the (new) governor signs some new ccw laws and we loose our right. Wasn't too good of a investment!

Funny that in the beginning of this thread there was talk that the sheriff had to respond within 90 days to applications. People were upset about it taking too long then.

          Enjoy yourselves!

I agree with you kokanee, they should of kept hiring additional background investigators until their able to process within the 90 day time frame. It should take no more than an hour for the background investigator to review the doj report, verify employment and decide whether their is any disqualifying factors. God forbid I'm put in a situation were I need to defend myself or my family but wasn't able to because of a 1 year wait.

              Well thank you!

Can you imagine the lawsuit in your scenario?

Would we wait a year for a building permit , marriage liecens or buisnes liecens etc. I know the sherif dept is strapped and they need every officer out on the street but come on we are law abiding tax paying citizens . The board of supps need to give the sherif some money to speed up the process . Could you imangen if it took a year for welfare section 8 housing or an Obama phone to be issued there would be law suits right and left .

                  Initial interview 9/14/15
                  Got "the call" 9/6/16

Background investigator said he needed a utility bill from me, emailed it back to him ASAP. After that he said he was going to put it on the sheriff's desk. *Fingers Crossed* I know my record is clean but still..

It seems like they're resigned to a one-year process now. When I applied after moving to SJ County they were shooting for 6 months. But at least they're still issuing!

Don't worry, you'll get it. If there were concerns, the investigator would have discussed them with you.

The only thing that I worry about and I never thought it would come up because when it happened I was 17, and I never went to juve or got a citation issued to me, was some dumb petty theft incident at the mall. Wasn't 100% my fault, anyway long story but I asked him as far as my application goes if I was in good standing to get approved or not.

He said that if it was up to him he would approve so he is confident the sheriff will approve.

My wife got a call from an investigator on Labor Day. He said that he has cleared her for renewal and is putting her file on the Sheriff's desk. He did mention that there will be no more spousal gun sharing on the permits. Now I have to go buy mama another gun... Evidently, a girl's got to have options!
If it ain't broke, keep fixin' it 'til it is...

So, how long did the renewal process take? I think I'm due in November of next year... Should I be looking into an appointment?
